The Balcony
I love this place.
Feelings of intrepidation arise as you ascend the narrow stairs skyward..., although any fears are quickly disposed of as soon as you take the sharp turn left at the top of the stairs through the entrance; The restaurant appears, bright and airy, with clean and tidy surfaces and service.
Warm, friendly and helpful staff are instantly attentive. Introduce yourself, and the staff will do the same! (This is a family business, and it shows in how proud these people are to do their jobs.)
Your senses are tickled and teased by the delicious aromas wafting from the rear of the restaurant where a smiley chef is making a final adjustment to some baby beet leaves.
You are seated at an available table while drinks arrangements are made and then left to fend for yourself. Making your choices from a well set out menu is proving not to be an easy task until you realise you are already planning your next visit.
(If you are having any troubles deciding, ask the staff for a recommendation... they'll be pleased to oblige.)
Your meal will arive within a perfectly reasonable time, looking as delicious as it sounded. The menu really needs a few visits...
Before of after enjoying some decadent morsel, take the opportunity to enjoy the balcony. It's lovely on a cool summer morning/afternoon with your elixer of choice.
Your tastes will be pleased, your family/friends will be well fed, and your bank manager might even send you a kiss... (Especially if you take them here!)
On 3 separate occasions I have now dined, and 3 exceptional dining experiences I have had. I will return for the eggs benedict many times yet.
This place has a sense of 'nothing is too much to ask' and quickly concretes good hearty solid food thoughts into your mind and your stomach. A gluten free range of menu items are available, and special requests are gladly catered for. I find this refreshing within this price range of restaurants.
Restaurant and balcony seating. Air-conditioned. (If dining with children you can distract them by getting them to find all the cats in...
Read moreI first went to the Balcony Restaurant in 2002. It was certainly very popular and regularly attended by multiple individuals. Myself included. I always used to order The Balcony Big Breakfast. It was certainly as the name suggests. BIG. Approx four years later, I chose to have breakfast again at this establishment. By then, the restaurant was under different management. But I decided to have breakfast there anyway, remembering how extremely good the meals were and their coffee tasted. Upon entry the first thing I noticed was how dramatically different the interior was under the new management. I was greeted with a smile and I asked to be seated at the same table that I always sat at last time I was a regular patron. Thankfully, the same table was vacant. As you may have expected, I ordered the exact same thing that I always used to have. I noticed that the price had increased considerably since last time I attended, but I wasn't worried. I was worried however when my meal arrived at my table. I said to the waitress, "I'm sorry, but I did infact order The Balcony Big Breakfast". She replied, "Yes sir, that is The Big Breakfast". I then astonishing said to her, "your kidding me! The last time I was a regular patron, I ordered the exact same thing. I'm sorry to say, but this is far smaller. Excessively smaller". When I regularly attended a few years ago, the meal that I always ordered filled quite easily, a large oval plate. The new Big Breakfast was considerably smaller. By at least two thirds. And that's being generous. To their credit, their coffee was still of a very high standard. So when you think about it. I was charged a higher price for far less quantity. Regardless of inflation, how does that equate to...
Read moreI organised a high tea baby shower for my friend. The whole process was super simple, Kelly has all the knowledge and was happy to answer my questions. The food was delicious and plenty of options to choose from, there was more than enough to go around to everyone. Coffee was superb and so was the blooming tea, I was going to buy some but I forgot and left so will be back to get some. The table and chair setup, along with the gift table was positioned right for all of us to not be crammed in. Service was exceptional too, very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Everyone was professional and really kind. The last minute update to GF for one guest and also the last minute addition of my son, wasn't any trouble either! Would highly recommend The Balcony especially for functions...
