One of the 3 pubs in Murwillumbah. Excellent menu, but most expensive of the 3 pubs. Really great steak. Right on the river, this is the only pub with a view, and it's great. Lots of space to drink or eat with that view. Modern decor, but nothing special. There is a pool table and it's good. Impy doesn't have pool tables, and courty pool table is so bad it's unplayable... so this is the only place in town for a game. Live bands on Friday's and often other nights... nowhere else in town with live music. Great local talent, and very popular. Policy is very strict on intoxication, so drunks get cut off early. Plenty of parking, both sides, and a drive thru bottleshop. . Update. The "Riv" has become my pub of choice. I keep ordering the rib eye fillet on the bone... at $38, the most expensive item on the menu... you can't make it at home any cheaper, by the time you calculate the veg and sauce, so I rate it as best value meal in town. Also veg actually tastes good, not that over watered fare so common other places. Sauces are strong and bitey, as they should be. I love the early cut off for intoxication... caught me out once, didn't like that, but it makes it a real family pub, for a meal with friends or family with the best menu and atmosphere and view. Sundays, 1pm, pool comp... $5 in, and you get a schooner, and $100 prize money... usually 2 comps, $50 to win each... nothing serious, but a good time and friendly social. Live music Friday nights, Saturday nights, and Sunday afternoon. It's good that it's the biggest floor area pub in town, because it really is the best. You can choose the atmosphere... inside food, deck food, regular indoor bar with (only) pool table in town, outdoor smoking deck with live music, ... and the pokies... but who cares about the pokies... if you only care about pokies, go to the RSL, because the pokies is all they care about. . Driving the taxi tonight, a sensitive passenger asked my advice for a place to have dinner... The Riv. With the best menu, atmosphere, and view, it's the first place...
Read moreTravelled down for lunch with mum and my brother from the Gold Coast as I was told it’s a nice spot over all and the level of hospitality was pleasantly unexpected and greatly appreciated, this pub is the kind of place where the music and atmosphere is more important than people betting on horses, the kind of place that feels like home where they remember your face as you come back to the bar for another beer not only do they remember what you were drinking but everyone at the table you previously purchased a round of drinks for, even down to the finest detail of the size of glass for beers and spirits and if there was a straw or not.
Last time I went to a pub who was able to remember my beer order and the size glass I had it in was out west at Karara, if only the people who ran these places could train people in the city.
Lunch was 10/10 ordering two pizzas and one entree.
We left with 1 whole pizza and half of the entree in take away containers due to the generous portion sizes, not only were our expectations exceeded by the size of the portions but the quality of ingredients the freshness and the flavours was worth three times what we paid for lunch.
From the bottom of my heart I couldn’t recommend this place enough to someone wanting a good meal with old fashioned...
Read moreOk so when the old Bistro people left at the end of their lease we were upset. Their food was excellent and we'd got to know them all really well during what seemed like a very short stay. ||||We tried the new Bistro when it first opened and were what you might call less than impressed and I do believe I said so publicly on TA.||||I now have to take it all back, and some!||||We've eaten there twice in recent months and both times thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I didn't review after the first visit in case it was a temporary improvement. But now I have to definitely swallow my first impressions and highly recommend the The Riv Bar & Bistro to all.||||On our last visit I asked for something quite specific, she was about to ask one of the chefs when another one, who was passing at the time, responded with a big smile in the affirmative. My meal was delicious - as was my husband's judging by the way it disappeared!||||I don't know if the kitchen staff have changed, the waitresses are the same - and they do a sterling job handling many tables between the two of them - or if we just needed to give them more time to settle-in. What ever the case, The Riv is now back on our list of favourite places to enjoy Sunday (or any day) lunch by our...
