Revised review 10-7-24.
I've been visiting Squires for about 7 years, and have always liked it. It's changing more recently, as it went under new ownership in the last few years. The prices have been getting steadily higher, and the menu is growing with more offerings (seemingly to pitch itself as a high-end steak house or compete with the other hospitality places in Subi offering steaks, with Wagyu now on offer etc). It's still good, but the service we had on our last visit was rudimentary at best, no smiles and not very welcoming at all.
Also, not changing the cutlery between courses seems to be the norm here now, which never used to be the case. Don't you have a dishwasher? I expect this level of service in a cheap joint, but for a $190 meal for two, (which consisted of one starter to share, two mains, sauce x2 and a bottle of wine) I expect better. Squires are trying to elevate the dining experience/charge more but letting themselves down with this cafƩ service standard.
Positives, steaks are as good as ever with more choices on the menu. Negatives, cheaping out on the little things, like not giving patrons a clean knife and fork between courses. Also, maybe smile when the customers walk in, or when serving. It costs nothing, and makes us feel welcome!
Not somewhere I'd rush back to after this visit, whereas I used to go every fortnight /3 weeks at the time of the original review.

Beautiful steaks in a nice setting. The eye fillet is gorgeous! Friendly service and great food in Subiaco village. Not sure what they do to get the steaks so tender and juicy but they are awesome. I love how they bring bread and butter too without it being charged for. Only downside is the Wilson car park outside (they are vicious and I watched them fine someone picking up a take away from Bibik Chan and he was only there minutes) , but there is free council parking in Roland...

This was supposed to be a family birthday dinner, I have come to squires quiet a few times and the food/ service has always been 10/10 so I knew going to squires for my birthday would be perfect because we would be well looked after with amazing food. However that was unfortunately not the case the waiters spilt my cocktail over me, another waitress spilled onion rings over my brother twice and he was continuously knocked over the shoulder whist the table was being cleaned throughout the night. The whole time we were there it felt very rushed as if they were eager to get us out and close early when it was to my understanding they are open until 10pm. The steak also wasnāt up to its usual standards, as soon as my steak was out infront of me it instantly looked different to what I usually order and I did question this to the waitress who then double checked the chief and apparently thatās the way itās supposed to look, even though itās never looked like that the previous times Iāve ordered. ( it looked like a completely different steak) After this experience I emailed squires explaining as friendly as possibly my experience only hoping for maybe a small discount or tab for my next visit. Iām not sure if Louise is the manager there but she was the one to reply to my email. I cannot explain how disheartened I was by her reply only giving me a bunch of excuses as to why the service was so terrible no compensation what so ever after spending a good couple of hundred the night of my birthday. Ā Ā Ā Read moreDISAPPOINTING!!!! Went to this place many times before when old owner had the place. It has gone down hill in a big way!!! Service is very average. The staff drop the food and never to be seen again, when old owner had the place within a few minutes the food coming out he or his friendly staff would return to the table with toothpicks and ask how everything is. Not now!!!! The steak is now no better than a $25 meal in a pub! Under cooked or over cooked we had a table of 4 and every steak was average, one was ment to come out medium and was lucky to be just over rare( I also am a qualified chef so I know what it's ment to be) Unfortunately this place has gone from being my most favourite place to being "hell no I won't be back".... The wait staff just seemed to have little or no idea what was going on or how to do it. We asked for a manager to explain that we weren't happy instead a wait staff came with a bill š š It's a real shame that what was once a great place and would easily compare to Meat and wine would struggle to beat sizzler quality.
