Do Not Book here! Partners Birthday booked for 5 people for the Degustation based on the reviews looked good. We arrived service seemed friendly and on to it. We ordered degustation two and it just went down hill each course this place thinks its a fancy restaurant and the prices do reflect but then your seated at tiny old wooden table without even a tablecloth, utensils on a single napkin... like you would at the local Cafe for brekky... The cocktail menu is just a few basic mixers and the barman doesnt know how to make anything else so your fav cocktail is not available here.... the cocktails we did have were bland tasting badly mixed and look sad ... no colour no sugar on rims ... just nothing special just bla boring stuff... Then the food comes our we had Degustation 2 and it just went down hill with each dish, The sashimi was good but its hard to stuff up raw fish sliced with some dressing... The cured scallop was mixed reception half of us loved it other half hated it it didnt look right (cut up scallop put back on shell in chunks) Karaage Chicken Was the standout this was the only good thing of the night.... Korean Fish Bao, the bun was perfect but it was just like a deep fried fish finger put into an amazing Bao with a bit of lettuce... just again underwhelming/ Curry prawn was again hit and miss half liked it other half didn't but wasn't anything to write home about, now everything from here starts tasting the same they bring out Pork Wontons, obviously frozen as when you try to pick them up they just disintegrate you need a big spook to eat no way you can get them with a chopstick..... then comes Chicken wings that taste almost exactly the same as the pork wontons yet overcooked everything out of balance just not right... nothing to cleanse the pallet yet (very important for a degustation ) Then comes the final dish Beef Short Rip - this was two short rips with 3 pieces of silverbeat spinach wilted and twirled on top, it had some sort of spice , some said Indian i was thinking Moroccan maybe Sri Lankin... Nepalese... spices on it that had burnt into the meat this was not edible ...... we had a beast machine eater with us who would eat pure stone if he had to so he ate it all for the rest of us but this was tasted then not eaten but anyone accept the machine, oh there was a small bowl of rice with that burnt meat and swirled silverbeat.... We then went to pay our bill and the fello asked how was everything i was honest and said not good mate and rather then enquire more he just went ohhhh not good and took my money that's was that....they just don't care or know what they are doing, they are trying to be a restaurant that doesn't have the qualified staff with the experience restaurant dinning assume they are all process or club chefs working not restaurant chefs... anyone in the business understands this term. I honestly feel we should have had a full or partial refund we spent more then $400 for 5 of us.... and wasn't to many drinks.... I want to say the only good thing about this night was the larger think maybe islander guy doing tables and maybe the bar... You understand customer service and you adapted very well to my 19 year old that has ADHD and recently found drinking, you gave him all your attention talking about drinks and things at the bar he felt well looked after. Sadly we will never return 3 of the party are Head Chefs at other venues on the coast and cant for the life of us work out how they stuffed this so bad ... is the Chef not tasting his food before it goes out? Do they even have a qualified Chef in the kitchen of just a cook doing his best?...
Read moreFirst time trying this venue for lunch today. We got lucky and found a carpark across the road.
We were greeted by a friendly staff member when we were looking at the menu outside. We decided on the window seat with a view of outside. There was no one else dining at the time. Music was playing at a reasonable volume.
We chose the following dishes:
Small bites menu: the soft shell crab tostada with fermented chilli was probably my favourite. The toasta was thin and crunchy it went well with the soft shell crab. There was a reasonable amount of crab and the lettuce added texture. I didn't notice the chilli.
kaarage chicken, sour and sour. There was a decent amount of chicken bites. They had a crunchy coating and the sweet and sour sauce had a chutney like consistency. There were chilli flakes on top which wasn't spicy for me but my partner found it a little spicy. I am used to having kaarage with mayo but this was a nice pairing.
Big bites menu: twice cooked pork belly sweet and sour and asian herbs. It came with two small pieces of pork belly with no skin. I didn't eat the fat on top but it added to the moisture of the dish. The sauce was more sour than sweet. I loved the addition of the fresh asian herbs on top.
chicken wings, thai caramel, fried garlic. These were really tasty. The chicken pieces (wings and drumsticks) were small. They were crispy & the accompanying sauce really suited the dish. These were unlike any other wings I've tried. It came with fresh sliced chilli but these weren't hot. Wish there was more chicken.
We also got a bowl of jasmine rice and walked away satisfied and with full tummies. You could eat everything with your fingers except the pork belly & rice.
Drinks: my partner got an alcoholic ginger beer & I chose the elderflower soda. I really enjoyed this drink. We were also given a bottle of water when we sat down.
We had a pleasant dining experience. We received prompt & friendly service. All the dishes were beautifully presented & there was a reasonable wait time in between dishes. We rated the food & service...

It was quite a warm night so we decided to sit inside - soon we were all perspiring because of inadequate Air Conditioning ; not sure if it was even working, because our waitress said it was not operating properly. Seating outside was occupied. There was no functional Toilet on the premises - patrons had to go across the road (Duporth Ave) to find a toilet elsewhere. The waitress apologised for the inconvenience.
I was not so hungry so ordered the Karaage Chicken, Sweet & Sour, this was enjoyable. Three members in our party ordered the Twice Cooked Pork Belly.... this was tough, very fatty, and not at all enjoyable. The wine list was satisfactory, with a good selection of alcoholic beverages.
Hardly anyone else at this restaurant so it was quiet and conversation was easy.
We all agreed that we should have gone elsewhere for our meal. The Waitress was polite and very efficient. Would not...
