Stumbled across Criminal Coffee after a morning beach walk and decided to stop for a cuppa.
I selected a honey infused chai while my wife had her standard flat white. We also browsed the appealing selection of cakes (half dozen or so) before finally deciding on the same thing: orange and almond cake.
We thoroughly enjoyed our drinks, not surprising when the coffee machine looks to cost more than a family sedan! The cake was also excellent, extremely moist and flavoursome.
The service was good and the laid-back gent at the counter was friendly and helpful. The lady working the kitchen also greeted us in passing, which was appreciated.
The venue itself is large and, although having an industrial feel, still exuded warmth and relaxation. Being directly opposite the beach would be a contributing factor.
In summary, Criminal Coffee ticked all the boxes and I have no doubt we'll visit again. Next time, one of the amazing toasties will definitely be on the agenda. I haven't stopped thinking about the HP pulled pork option since leaving!
**28/10 update. Indulged in another visit today and again really enjoyed both the drinks and cakes. We grabbed the tried-and-tested orange & almond cake and, for something different, a slice of apple & rhubarb cake. Both were beautiful.
We also ordered two takeaway toasties - pineapple pulled pork and a beef brisket. They were two big slabs of buttery, meaty, cheesy magic. I really enjoyed them, even though we ate them cold a couple of hours later.
Simon, the aforementioned laid-back gent, even remembered us from our last visit and greeted us enthusiastically. His staff were also lovely, flashing big smiles and delivering genuine, friendly service.

Read morePoor service and Bad Coffee I was shocked to see this had a 4.7 rating. My experience was ordinary from the moment my group and I walked into your cafe.
No customer service or greeting when we got there so we didn't know if we seated ourselves or if we waited, so 5 minutes later we seated ourselves. Then go to the register to order and got served by someone who couldn't be less interested to be there.
The coffee was not pleasant, it was bitter and tasted watered down, my group got a flat white, a mocha and a Capp. All 3 of us found the coffee undrinkable. Very unfortunate given how much we love coffee and leaving coffee behind is a crime.
Toasted sandwiches were nice and the first and only experience with good customer service came from the staff member in the sandwich Bar. One of the sandwiches, the brisket sandwich was a little heavy on the seeded mustard but at this point the sandwiches were the highlight.
The 3 of us agreed that your cafes name was appropriate because we felt robbed. For what was a busy Saturday when your team should be putting on their best, we were disappointed that this was...
