This was a cute restaurant in Montville, but aesthetics is the only guaranteed highlight. We arrived at 1pm for lunch on a Saturday a couple weeks ago and immediately the service from the lady at the counter was negative. She claimed they were too busy to clean the outside tables which was fine and we just moved outside later, but when deciding what to order at the counter, we took too long for her patience and she threw the notepad down and disappeared to the back. I don’t know if this was an off day or something, but I was expecting way better service based off of previous reviews.
The food was also not quite worthy of the price. The chicken katsu curry was okay, but had an off after taste, and the ratio of rice to curry was not even, with not enough curry for the rice provided. I’m also not sure what style of japanese curry involves broccoli. The chicken karaage don was the better of the two dishes and the chicken was prepared well, but it could’ve done with a more saucy element.
Overall, we were hoping for a better experience. Perhaps this is just the accepted standard of food for the area, but we’ve been to way busier establishments in the cities and have been treated nicer...
Read moreBelow average customer service: We walked in with kids and asked if we can sit anywhere, a young waitress said yes. No offer for high chair, spoke to a woman (asian, could be the owner) for high chair. She had no facial expressions on her, grabbed it behind the counter, and said to me (i heard she said) “try not to broke the rail”. I was a bit confused. When I went and grabbed another chair for my partner, she passed by and said again “ try not to broke the road”. I said “not to break what?” (Feeling offended now). She said it again “ try not to block the road” . I finally got what she was saying! Omg, okay and we were not blocking the aisle (if you were so worried then plz send someone to guide us to a more suitable for 2 adults and 2 kids.
Since They got kids menu, then they should be more accomodating and friendly to family with kids. But no, didn’t feel welcomed at all. Other tables got offered with cutlery and glass of water, we got nothing.
This definitely ruined our mood for the meal. Otherwise- 4 stars would be okay.
Pricier than normal, but it’s at montville so...

It was raining on and off in Montville and I dropped in for lunch. I asked if they had a table for me and the person at the counter said it's raining so you can't really sit on the enclosed balcony. There where were several free tables and other people sitting out there.
It wasn't raining at the time and I said I would be happy to sit there and take my chances as there were plastic blinds in place if the rain did start up again.
They reluctantly took chairs off the table and sat me, very begrudgingly.
I had to go inside and ask for some soy sauce to have with my meal. I asked one waitress and she put her hand up to shush me and answered the phone instead. Flagged down somebody else and was made to feel like it was a huge imposition.
I don't think you can afford to be unwelcoming if you want to continue as a small business in...
