We decided on a light and healthy dinner and, rather than spending time in the kitchen, thought we'd try some of the highly touted salads at SBS.

The lady working the counter, who'd already spent time with me on the phone discussing salad options and availability, was just as friendly and accommodating in-store.

The establishment itself, although small in size, has an energy and buzz that can't be ignored. It was filled with patrons, even at the usually quieter post-lunch time of 1:30pm. The front counter is an ocean of salad colours that quickly draws you in.

The salads looked fresh and inviting and, truth be told, it was so difficult deciding that we actually had to let another customer past to be served. We eventually selected 4 salads to be packaged into two family sized tubs ($22 each). Along with a whole BBQ chicken (bought elsewhere), this not only filled 4 adults but allowed for plenty of leftovers.

The individual salads were crisp, incredibly fresh and really tasty. We have ventured into salad oriented businesses before but SBS is the best to date. Although I can't remember precise details, we purchased the apple & celery, the beetroot, the cauliflower & chili lemon yoghurt, and the broccoli. Although we naturally rated them according to our personal tastes, there wasn't a single one that disappointed. The broccoli was the clear winner, however, and will be top of the list on our next visit.

On an aside, SBS do have an extensive meals menu, with a focus on seafood, so please know that salads are merely one feather in their cap.
