I've sat in this beautiful outdoor garden many times over the years when it was the very first original Malarkey Cafe. Recently I ordered breakfast that I made up from the menu. I ordered toast, avocado, hash browns and their in-house bean mix with a pot of tea and oatmilk. The hash browns were cooked but pale and soft. We all like our hash browns to be golden and crispy so I'm thinking perhaps they were microwaved. The toast was very unexciting too. The in-house made bean mix was in the tiniest pot and didn't even cover 1 piece of toast. The bill was high end prices for breakfast and I was disappointed. The staff were lovely though and the garden is still as lovely as I remembered it to be. I did go back a second time and I thought the bill was a lot again for what we had which was morning tea this time not breakfast but didn't question it. If you are out and about in Caloundra visiting the hospital, the retirement village, getting your hair done, a beauty treatment or just looking for a quiet little shady spot for a lovely lunch - then this is it. The Shady bean is part of the Hub collective and is a great spot for meeting up with friends, a work business breakfast or lunch or maybe that little catch up. I’m plenty of various dining spaces for private catch ups or larger tables for bigger groups. The coffee is great and the meals are good value and generous. There are simple menu items, with add ons as well as the sweets display or prepared sandwich grab and go. What's more, it's pooch friendly even offering our two 4-legged friends a Puppacino each which they lapped up appreciatively.
