A very disappointing experience, over a very small and honest mistake. The cake order we submitted was unfortunately taken incorrectly, which is fine, as mistakes do happen.
The mistake was that we ordered a gluten free cake for our coeliac mothers birthday (an actual coeliac, not a fashionable gluten intolerant). And they delivered a regular cake. Beautiful yes, but we couldn't use it.
The order form hadn't an area to select gf, and the staff member writing the order simply forgot to note on the form gluten free. A simple and forgiveable mistake.
The fall out was quite disturbing. Instead of apologising and processing the refund. My wife was publically berated in front of the Tome clientele. Quite openly and intentionally with the purpose of embarrassing her. The staff were shocked that we requested a refund, as they also offered 4 cup cakes as compensation. A nice gesture, but not $90 worth of nice gesture.
So a simple mistake that could have been easily dealt with, but unfortunately the staff seemed to take the mistake personally, extremely unprofessional. They were eager to go on the assault instead of quietly apologising.
A shame since we did used to love the store, but we feel uncomfortable...

I wanted some of their delicious Cinnamon Scrolls for a Sunday but with covid they're operating only Mon-Fri.
So I emailed Alita & Matthew enquiring about how I could get some. Their response time was quick! and I placed an order for pick up the day before the Sunday. Communication was really good. Invoice was sent, payment made and the goods ready and waiting for me as organised. Which was awesome!
I was given a tip on re-heating as I was refrigerating the scrolls for the following day after pick up. I found bringing them out of the fridge to sit a bit before I was ready to heat and eat, good. Heated them with the extra bit of sauce and they came up so good! Like straight from an oven. Fresh, soft and the right amount of everything, cinnamon butter, icing - perfect!

Read moreNot your average Cafe! This place features an amazing photo exhibition from the incredibly talented Joel Birch (The Amity Affliction). I was not expecting to see that when I came in to try the place out! I was blown away! The coffee was great, especially the house made caramel in it, and the cake I had was to die for. I don't like hipster places or pretentious "funky" try hard cafes, and I'm not usually a fan of arty stuff, but this place was such an unexpected experience. It was subtle and clean and super interesting. Great for somewhere different to...
