We loved it. Travelled an hour to get there with our dog, and they didn't disappoint. Take note, there may be a bit of a wait on a weekend as you can't book (you can reserve a table during the week though) but they'll pop you on a waiting list for when there's a space. Probably not the best for big groups for that reason. But we just went for a walk for 15 minutes (there's a farmer's market down the road on Saturdays!) and then the table was ready.
We got the Unicorn Noodles and the Spring Garden (both vegan versions). These guys are known for their presentation. Freaking art on a plate! The vegan chicken schnitzel is EXCEPTIONAL. Seriously, even if you're a meat eater - leave the animal off your plate for this one, it's worth it! The carrots in both dishes were both surprise favourites too. Absolutely divine.
The Sun Soaker juice was beautifully made, and you could tell the lemonade was fresh and homemade. Yum!
They were super busy, so we're accounting that for service being a little slow, which is totally understandable, but the wait staff were so friendly which made up for it.
Can't wait to come back and try the eggs...
Read moreOur experience today was very disappointing. Our order was lost, and no one checked on our table during the 45 minutes we waited. When we finally asked about it, we were offered $5 off the bill. When we mentioned that didn’t really make up for losing the order, the staff member replied, “I’m not the manager, so that’s the best I can do.”
When the food eventually arrived, the chicken was still pink. We raised this with staff and were told, “We checked it and it’s our opinion it was cooked.” This response felt dismissive and unhelpful. It’s not unreasonable for customers to expect properly cooked food and a customer-service-minded approach.
My wife tried to offer constructive feedback and was told there was no manager on site. She suggested that staff check in on tables more regularly and ensure guests are happy with their meals. The cashier said they would remove a coffee from the bill but then charged us the full amount plus a 12% Sunday surcharge.
Overall, the experience showed poor communication, lack of accountability, and very little effort to make...
Read moreThey were quite good once upon a time. As of the past few months (since about April this year) the food and coffee is significantly worse.
Specifically, since the change the portion sizes are less generous. First time I went, I had the eggs Benedict. The poached eggs were over cooked, hard in the middle on two servings (consistently). Asparagus was stringy, had clearly been undercooked. The second time I went I had “Gallens protein bowl”. The chicken was dry and over cooked. Food was seasoned poorly. Pickled vegetables tasted under pickled. Good good ideas executed poorly. Have the chefs changed? Last year I had identical dishes that were cooked properly.
Can confidently say the coffee is now the worst among the shops in Sutherland. It is still very good in absolute standards, but I would go somewhere else given that the other “white horse” branded houses provide consistently better coffee.
There is no longer a reason to go here. Reputation alone cannot keep this place...
