Overall, the food was good, as good as it could get. We ordered a few dishes, and every dish tasted satisfactory. We were happy and enjoyed the food quality and taste.
However, the waitress seemed to lack basic communication skills and was really confused when I asked a few questions. I couldn't get clear responses, which was frustrating.
The most frustrating thing was the price charged for the rice. I've been to many fancy and high-end Thai restaurants, and even the most expensive ones I've visited only charged a maximum of five dollars per person for rice. However, this restaurant charged $9 per bowl of rice, and there wasn't even a substantial amount of rice provided.
When I made the order, they said that we could refill the rice, so I was under the impression that we would only be charged once, maybe $10 or $15 in total. However, we were charged a total of $36 just for a couple of servings of rice for four people, which I think is outrageous and unheard of.
I don't think I'll visit this restaurant again because charging 4 people $36 for plain rice is unreasonable. It's just really frustrating when you are charged such a high price for something that is usually complimentary or reasonably priced at other...
Read moreFrom the moment I stepped into the tastefully decorated interior of The Zest Thai, I knew I was in for an authentically Thai experience. The owner, May, and her team were extremely welcoming and friendly.
Whilst I was able to select a couple of appetisers for myselr, The owner, May, recommended the perfect dishes to follow. I started with some chicken satay, spring rolls and curry puffs. At other Thai restaurants I've often found the chicken to be dry, and the satay sauce claggy and too pastey. At The Zest the chicken was wonderfully juicy and the sauce made to perfection. The spring roll and curry puff were full of flavour and not too oily.
For main course I tried May's special recipe Panaeng curry which had just the right amount of spice for my unsophisticated western palette! The person I was with had the crispy pork belly which was again cooked to perfection, and accompanied with an extremely well balanced sauce.
If you live on the Northern Beaches you've no shortage of Thai places to choose from, but if you want a delicious, well-priced, authentic experience, then you should definitely choose The Zest. I can't wait to go back and see May again soon, and try more of their...
Read moreFeel very disappointed in the chef and lady serving there, i have been a repeat customer for the past years since i have moved to Narrabeen, tonight Thursday 14th of September I walked to the restaurant to order some dinner (the same dish I have ordered over the many years of eating thai food and i have previously ordered from this restaurant) i asked for panang curry with chicken, and requested for it to have little to no chilli. The lady pulled a funny face which i tried to jest with and laugh about how weak my chilli tolerance is. But the lady continued to refuse me as i am not allowed to order this dish without chilli even though as stated earlier i have everytime i have ordered curry from thai. The chef and lady on service continued to push there facts on me and would not listen to any reason so i walked out and will not return again as i now feel extremely uncomfortable in this establishment and will be ordering delivery from a much more professional and friendly restaurant amy@lemon...
