Last night was my second meal at Fat Pomelo, and I couldn't wait to write a review. One of my friends came from Mosman, and she said she couldn't wait to go there again. Let me start with the food. We had the non-seafood set menu and the food was stunning. The word that comes to mind is generous. Where so many restaurants skimp on portion sizes, this was ample, abundant, and pleasingly filled each plate. No one missed out on anything - which can happen with shared dishes. Each dish was flavourful, perfectly balanced and yummy with a mixture of textures, spices and fresh ingredients. The atmosphere was great - fun, buzzy and alive and every table was full. That said, there was no pressure to leave the table for the second sitting (a huge problem with Sydney dining - you often feel hustled to leave and forced to skip dessert or coffee). The acoustics were also good; even in a busy restaurant, we could hear each other and didn't need to shout across the table. Finally, shout out to the wait staff. We never had to ask for our water glasses to be filled, and they cleared the table when we'd finished dishes in a respectful, charming manner. The Northern Beaches needs more restaurants of this quality with a reasonable price tag. Congratulations Fat Pomelo, I can't wait to come again (which might be difficult after this review -...
Read moreA fairly new addition (2025) to the upper Northern Beaches food scene, Fat Pomelo is a must try! The menu is largely South East Asian style, which I love as we rarely get that in this part of Sydney. We tried the set menu which is 69pp (min 2pax). Everything was delicious and served in a timely manner. The serving size is very good - sometimes when you do set menus the food portion is too small - not this one. By the end we were quite full and we struggled to finish the last bit, but we still did as it's so good! It's hard to pick but if I have to, my favourite would be the scallops and the sticky pork belly.
We walked in and luckily got seated on a weekend lunch but I suggest booking (I think we just got lucky as it was pretty full when we went around 1pm).
Staff were friendly and approachable and the atmosphere is nice and open. There is no ocean views as it is on the other side of the road and is on ground level, but you can just cross the road and walk by the beach to burn all the calories after a meal!
There is street parking and also a parking lot across the restaurant.
We will definitely go back again to try the other things...
Read moreWe tried the belly bao, wings and prawns for entrees and I have to say the belly bao and wings were 10/10 delicious!! I was a bit disappointed by the prawns and couldn't really taste the garlic butter flavour at all. I had the Singapore prawn, my mates had the drunken noodles and karagge chicken all were stand outs and the prawns were heaps better tasting in my main dish. My biggest disappointment was the rush. From the minute we sat down the staff were all over us, everytime we would ask for 5 more mins it seemed an issue and our plates were taken away as soon as we put our forks down or so it seemed. We was having a great time laughing and chatting and it all came to an abrupt end when the waiter came and gave us the bill. I made a comment that we hadn't even been asked if we would like dessert and his response was oh sorry, we have people arriving. Disappointing and although we enjoyed the food its unlikely we...
