We visited Brew Ha Ha coffee roasters in Lilyfield, only about 5 minutes from the Sydney CBD. A cool little spot with plenty of indoor seating. Their decor is mostly coffee based equipment, a huge roasting machine and bags of coffee dominating the space. They also showcase their medals, rightfully so.
We made this a destination visit, hearing via word of mouth about their award winning speciality coffee.
Brew Ha Ha won a Bronze award in the filter category at the Australian International Coffee Awards. They also won bronze last year for espresso and milk based coffees.
We tried a mocha, latte and also some of their filter - a Rwandan origin that was made especially for us. The milk based coffees were nice and smooth and came served with quality latte art. The staff made us the filter coffee that saw the fruity flavours pop.
Food wise, there’s a lot of tempting options, from granola to avo on toast or salads, but we opted for the weekend specials since we do plan to return. The loaded scrambled egg croissant with chorizo, onion, tomato, feta and herbs was excellent. A beautifully crispy croissant with a creamy scrambled egg mix.
In addition, their beetroot dish was so tasty, whilst also being light and healthy. The four beetroot salad with red, golden and target beetroot that was roasted and served with a beetroot purée, greens, candied walnuts and labneh was an intricate dish full of flavour. We were both vying to polish the plate off!
Service was super polite and food came out in excellent time, despite it being quite busy. Owner Dennis was so kind and made us feel welcome and it is a combination of factors that will see us...
Read moreI've been coming to this café for years, especially when I worked just up the road, but the service I received today was incredibly disappointing.
I was patient when the young girl at the till made a mistake with my order ordering a full cream cappuccino instead of an almond milk and also forgot to charge me for an item. I understood she was still learning and even reassured her that it was fine and she could take her time.
However, after waiting ten minutes for my coffee—while every customer who ordered after me received theirs—I asked about my order. I was told it was on its way, but it clearly wasn’t. The barista eventually double-checked, and the owner remarked that his daughter “obviously didn’t understand me.” I corrected him, saying she did understand, as she had actually cancelled the order and re-entered it, repeating it back to me to confirm.
Despite this mix-up and the wait, there was no apology or acknowledgment from the owner. I left saying I won’t be returning. A simple “I’m sorry for the confusion and the wait” would have...
Read moreThese guys are seriously underrated. I lived around the corner years ago, and would regularly get my coffee there. I was in the neighborhood recently and went in. I couldn't even believe Dennis remembered me, let alone my name. But, that aside, the coffee is so. good. I mean, it's perfect. Like, I would drive down now to get my morning coffee there. I wish he had more cafes open in various locations. I just want to add that, encountering someone who is so dedicated to his craft, and continues to care about the quality produced, even under the constraints of current prices and bean shortages, is genuinely a blessing & saving grace. I never tried the food, but the coffee was so good. I still remember the first sip of the cappuccino I ordered months ago, in December - not too frothy, not too flat, with the flavor of the coffee coming right through the foam from the very first sip.
Can't wait to come by again, next time I'm nearby. I voted for the cafe in the Local Business Awards recently. Stay well,...
