Went to the butcher and the farmers for lunch for the first time. Really looking forward to trying this restaurant.
Ordered bruschetta for entree Presentation was nice. Lacked flavour and was pretty bland. As there was no garlic flavour or any basil which makes the dish
My wife ordered the beer battered fish & chips and it was ok and edible. Fish was served on top of the salad which made it warm. Serving the fish and chips in the basket didn’t give you much room to cut the food or even can’t even place the food where it doesn’t over lap other foods. Maybe focus more on the food and customer service then food decoration plating
I ordered the beef skewer which I asked if there is pita bread that would be on the side as I thought that would go great with the beef as the waiter said no. I had the option of mash chips or salad which I settled for chips with aioli.
As the entree came out with my wife’s fish and chips I was still waiting on my order
We started to eat the entree then moved to the mains. I cut into the beef which was so tough and hard to get off the skewer once I finally cut it off I started to chew it I couldn’t even swallow the beef as it was so tuff and tasted absolutely terrible. Like eating an old leather boot. I asked the waiter what cut of meat it was she said rump. I couldn’t continue to take another bite. The waiter asked if everything was ok. I explained to her it was terrible and tasted horrible
I believe it might of been the manger came over as he didn’t explain his position and asked what was wrong with the meat and he has it on the skewer just letting it dangle in front of us which was embarrassing and very rude. I think that was not called for and he was arrogant about the situation and said to me that rump is a dry meat which I said to him any meat can be cooked to be tender as I am a huge meat lover and he was rude about the whole thing which I didn’t find professional at all.
He asked do I want to swap it for the chicken skewer and I agreed to have it swapped.
As I did read on the menu the chicken was in a peri peri sauce which not all peri peri sauces are spicy or hot they can be mild as I took a bite of the chicken skewer the spice of it was next level hot and no way I could eat that one either.
The lack of care and professionalism was dismal and really disappointing as I just wanted to pay and I couldn’t get out of there quick enough.
This is my first and last time at the butcher and the farmer. Wouldn’t recommend this...
Read moreThe food was amazing, full of flavour and heart, the service on the other hand was so disappointing. We live near the Tramsheds and try so hard to give this place another chance time after time, we say before we go "The service is poor" and they continue to prove their reputation for poor service right again and again. We booked in for dinner, we were greeted with a really nice waiter and we said, "this is great, we could possibly be wrong" but no, after our first wine recommendation, our bread and butter arrived; we had to ask for plates so we could butter our random pita bread (where is the salty butter and sour dough?, that was so good) The waiters are too busy chatting, we asked for our meal by a passing waiter and it is then delegated to the youngest of staff, with no communication or update, we then watched the waiters we asked for our meal stand around and chat. I honestly don't know how anything gets done. We had random waiters throughout our experience, our food was brought over when we were still eating our bread, although we asked for it to arrive separately and they continued to put it on our table, we sent it back to be put under the warmer and then had to ask for our food as we sat with nothing in front of us for quite awhile (apparently after asking 2 different waiters for our food, they re-cooked our meal, after us asking what happened and that's fair enough). We were not offered more water, more wine nor a desert menu or coffee. This was so disappointing as we like to support local restaurants but this was our last time. Whoever runs this place, some advice: One waiter that serves you until you leave, stop your staff from chatting with each other all night, tell them to get off their phones during service times, it is important to have happy staff but they are also there earning money and I think they forget that paying customers keep a restaurants doors open in such volatile times. Keep the great work up with the food but your wait staff is letting you down BIG TIME!! The restaurants who are bustling and full night after night have GREAT food and complimented with GREAT SERVICE!! Get it right Butcher and Farmer please so we can support you again and enjoy our service! Oh and one last tip...excellent wait staff, ask you how your food was, not just quickly process your bill so they can get back to chatting.
Good luck with improving your...
Read moreWe have been longtime patrons of The Butcher and the Farmer. They have THE BEST BURGERS and whenever we get a burger craving, we head to The Butcher and the Farmer. Last night was our first visit since a recent management change. What a vast disappointment. Apparently the decision was made to only offer burgers from 12-5pm (we showed up for dinner at 6:15pm). We thought about leaving when we were told we could not order burgers, but decided to stay because we have enjoyed the food previously. This was a mistake. I ordered a nicoise style salmon salad. The salmon arrived with skin on (this was not described in the menu or I would not have ordered it) and the skin had a strong unpleasant fishy taste that we both found unpalatable. I removed the skin and could only take a couple bites of the salmon which was mushy and largely tasteless. My partner could not stomach more than a bite either. Our steamed vegetables were similarly tasteless not unlike microwaved frozen vegetables. My partner ordered a rump steak which was pretty ordinary and included chunks of gristle. It was the only part of the meal we were able to finish apart from a starter of bruschetta which was very nice (the bruschetta is why this review is getting 2 stars instead of one).
It is clear to us that The Butcher and the Farmer has declined in quality and service since we last visited. We are very disappointed in the quality of food received and are not sure yet if we will return in the future to give it another try. We are also confused by the decision to not serve burgers after 5pm. The Butcher and the Farmer has been a place where we have gathered with large family groups for dinner in the past, and the burgers have been a massive hit and preferred menu item for all the kids. Given the number of empty tables and paucity of families with children in the restaurant on a weekend evening, one might surmise we are not the only dissatisfied patrons.
Management - I hope you will take this review to heart and consider implementing changes to improve the quality of your food and the menu. We used to enjoy coming here very much. From looking at the google reviews, it appears we are not the only ones who have noticed a decline in quality under your...
