Went in late this morning to have a hot drink and toast. I used to frequent this cafe often before the pandemic and had great memories of the service, atmosphere and food. Unfortunately today has served as giving me nightmares from now on. Ordered a hot, soy milk and raising toast. Took a while to explain what a hot soy milk was to a very baffled young man who took my order… and when it finally computed that what I was after was just hot soy milk, with froth and some chocolate on top (had to resort to saying… a soy cappuccino without coffee!) the young man made sense of my perhaps extremely rare and complicated (?) request and accepted the order. I sat down and waited a while after getting my hot drink (they were busy) when it finally arrived, the raising toast was burned. I gently pointed out to the waiter that it was burned all along the edges (charcoal black) and the surprised waiter who seemingly thought black did not indicate a burned toast, took it back to the kitchen. A few moments later another, older person came to my table with a plate where my old raising toast was and placed it back on my table in a rather aggravated manner. The toast on the plate was the original one and it had been roughly scraped so that most of the black on just one side had been scraped off… and the bottom was still burned. I pointed that out to the man who then proceeded to be abusive, raised his voice and apparently wanted to tell me (could not quite understand his strong accent) that to him the toast was perfectly good. I told him to lower his voice, that his behaviour was not at all appreciated and that he could take the toast back as I no longer wished to stay in that place, given the experience. He did not seem to be at all phased or lowered his tone or aggressiveness… fortunately it was all defused by what I believe was another staff member who in an Asian language said something quickly to the man, apologised, to me and said they had a busy day. I then requested my money back, which she did give me back (for just the toast and not the drink that I only had partially sipped as I had been waiting for my toast) and I then left in disgust. In all the many years I have been going to cafes (I’m over 60!) I have never experienced such an appalling, rude and threatening behaviour from a cafe staff member. The person (perhaps he was the cook?), given his very questionable skills and aggressiveness should certainly not be dealing with people and should certainly not be preparing food! Never again and hope that many people do read this and consider going...
Read moreCafe Zozo is the best place to go if you just want a nice weekend brunch with your family or alone because of the scenery, food and the service. The view from outside is this beautiful mural of the "Gumnuts" and it is very colourful and bright and the perfect place to take pictures! The coffee here is very strong and whatever you order, they can make. If you want your coffee sweet, they'll make it sweet. If you want your coffee bitter, they'll make it bitter. Their flexibility in coffee is insane and the food here also gives this cafe a whopping 5 stars. Cafe Zozo is THE place for a quick and simple brunch that has a variety of options from sandwiches and toasts, to salads and burgers. The food here is definitely worth the price and the coffee is absolutely delicious. Not to mention, the service! The owners and workers here are very sweet and it's not only for me but I see many other customers who have causal conversations with the workers here, showing the connection between the regulars and the workers. The delivery is quick and the servers are very nice. Cafe Zozo is THE PLACE to go to and I believe everyone really should try out this...
Read moreNice colourful cafe in Neutral Bay with tile murals outside the cafe. The place is nice during the day but a bit cold on a winter morning. I ordered a cappuccino, I liked how smooth it was. This place has good coffee with efficient friendly service. They can improve by putting other coffee snacks like chocolate croissants but otherwise good vibe I'd come here again.
Compared to other local cafes this place is up there in it's...
