I attended the Kerser concert on the 27th of October in New town. I left early as I was getting tired. I crossed the road and found something to eat. I entered this small restaurant on a corner Street. It looks like somebody's garage. Despite this the menu was very interesting and different nothing like I've seen before in my life. I spoke with the manager and the staff. There was a very warm cute welcoming girl at the till. She had very short hair and long little plaits. She was a very nice person. I asked her about the menu and then I decided to get a lamb kofta pocket. It arrived in a stainless steel bowl. The meat was very delicious and spicy and they were some interesting garnishes some pink pickled radish, hummus and some hallopino's. It was also so served with a little bit of salad in the Pita pocket bread with the meat kebabs. When I bit into it, it was like there were fireworks in my mouth. I've never tasted so many flavors in one mouthful. There was a taste of sweet, sour, bitter, creamy and overall a very delicious dish. I also ordered the baby fellafells for takeaway. They will very delicious with yogurt. I also ordered both desserts. One resembled a bird's nest texture crispy thin stringy noodles I think. t on top of the noodles was honey , creamy custard and strawberries and nuts. I have to say this is one of the best desserts I've ever had in my life. The other dessert was some very bitter and not sweet doughnuts. These were quite average I didn't end up eating them and gave them to my dog's. I do recommend going to this restaurant the menu is really interesting and exciting. The staff there are very nice and warm. Overall I really liked it. Thanks so much Monica...
Read moreStaff said “ that’s a lot of food” when we were ordering for a table of 5 , falafel mix is extremely dry - they were not crispy and did not taste ahthentic , almost nothing on the menu taste like the real thing not even close, seems like a white spin off to Egyptian food with not one Egyptian person working in site
Kishari doesn’t come with da’a , the chickpeas are rock solid as if they haven’t been soaked ( they make some ready in a can if you can’t boil them lol) , the crispy onions on top were not crispy , the tomato’s based sauce on it is bland
The eggplant should have been called peppers with a touch of eggplant - 90% pepper and 10% eggplant - also not sure why it’s more Lebanese then Egyptian?
Hawawshi in Egypt is not made with Lebanese bread - it’s made with Egyptian bread which is nothing like it
Was charged for two plates we asked to be removed when ordering and ended up with more food then we wanted - which is probably why it seemed like “a lot of food”
Was told they had 2 serves of koshari left - they didn’t lie because the rice in them was from the bottom of the pan with new koshari being over an hour wait
Please change the name because Cairo takeaway is so misleading when the food doesn’t taste ahthentic and is more like a white skin if that’s inspired by the Middle East and not even Egypt - there are more similarities with Lebanon then Egypt and they aren’t even on the same continent
The malouba is not Egyptian at all - we don’t use cauliflower
Packed our left overs and handed them to a homeless person - I guilt guilty doing so since the food quality was so bad
Really had higher expectations for a bill that...
Read moreI went here because I've seen queues snaking along the street in the evenings, and read amazing reviews on Google. However, I was left disappointed. I visited on a quiet afternoon, I was literally the only person in there at the time. I ordered the chicken pita pocket with a mint tea. When the food came out, there was no tea - I assumed there might be a slight delay for whatever reason and started eating. The pita pocket was very difficult to eat as the pita itself was very dry/stale and crumbled every time I took a bite instead of being pliable. Because of this the fillings kept falling out, making my enjoyment of the meal non-existent. My tea had still not arrived. Dry food and nothing to wash it down with (there was water but I wanted a hot drink as it was a cold winter's day) was not ideal. I asked the person behind the counter about the tea, and they made a noncommittal gesture that I assumed meant they were making it.
I struggled and finished my pita, resorting to using cutlery in the end. No tea yet. I got up, went to the counter and asked again about it - and the man who took my order (who had left the establishment for the duration it took me to eat my pita) said he had forgotten. He apologized and said it was his fault and that he was making it now.
When there's just one person in the restaurant, I find it unacceptable that they would forget one of the only two items ordered. Maybe I had bad luck, since so many people are raving about the food here, but I won't...
