Divino Osteria — Restaurant in Sydney

We went for a Sunday lunch, we sat in the outdoor terrace, the whole restaurant is nicely decorated, feel very comfortable, it is not too busy at the time. Both of the waitresses are very kind, welcoming and efficient. There is no rush from one course to another one, great for a longish relaxing lunch. Bread is very very tasty, it's like a mini pizza with lots of herbs and the texture is the dough is beautiful. We had calamari which is pan fried with lots of olive oil with lots of pesto and it is spicy, great to have a leftover sauce with the bread. You can see from the photos of all other courses we had, we found the Italian food there has a lot of middle eastern or North African influence with the use of nuts, pomegranate, spices.., we really enjoy it, so different from the usual Italian food we have in most other restaurants. I came here for the first time with my partner after always walking past and seeing the restaurant constantly filled with patrons. The first mishap was a misunderstanding with a waitress who wasn't well spoken in English. She didn't understand my message and inform the manager clearly that we will be a little later than our booking, as we wanted to dress nicely for the occasion.

We were quite disappointed at first with our order not being set in order for the cooks to prepare, as we noticed a bigger group of patrons arriving after us and getting their food before we did (waiting +30 mins). After we were able to speak to the manager about these issues, he instantly apologised sincerely and got the orders coming out, we were kindly treated with complimentary entrees, desserts, and drinks over the course.

A lovely welcoming restaurant, with great food. The grilled calamari was exceptional, as were the scallops. Fantastic pizza - we shared one with a mushroom and truffle topping - superb! So 5/5 for the food. Wine selection also great - we ordered by the glass to try a couple of different wines, all great (although pours were not at all generous). The reason we’ve given only 3 stars is that the service was less than ordinary. Waiters’ English limited (fine when one’s in Italy, but not at Sydney prices!) and there was no finesse at all in the food serving. We had to ask numerous times for our wine orders, each arriving so late, well after we’d eaten each course, We could see bar staff drying glasses instead of filling orders! A shame.
