Googled this restaurant today on a public holiday, with great anticipation. Arrived with my young family around 5:30pm Our food came out in bits and pieces, after customers that had been seated after us. Rude, impatient service by old Asian woman 1 Shoved hot plates in my face. Huffed when I enquired about rest of order. Small, tight servings. Most disgraceful “ Sweet and sour chicken” I have ever had in my life!! Looked like they poured a can of sweet fruit salad/syrup over a few minuscule, sad burnt pieces of some sort of meat, with lots of bones! So bizarre!! Luckily my 2 year old didn’t choke!! Sizzling beef tasty, but angain, a very small serving with only a few pieces meat. The rest was sloppy sauce. Mixed jelly drink was tasty , until I discovered it had red kidney beans that I get from Aldi in it. Gross! Our family loves our food and especially, our Asian cuisine, we have travelled and are well versed in authentic cuisine..This was by far anything but authentic! It was pathetic and quite frankly offensive! So sad to see a dark and cruel tank in corner with the most miserable looking grey fish in over occupied tank, awaiting their fate to be cooked alive no doubt, given “Live fresh fish” is a part of the menu! Just terrible! Is this even allowed in Australia?? So cruel! $80 of our family’s hard earn’t money, we will never get back … A really sad, disappointing experience!! Perhaps we had this ill experience as we were the only different looking customers aside from all the Asian patrons, and hence why the treatment was terrible??? The only positive was the lovely young male waiter was a pleasant boy with a smile on his face. We won’t be back! Don’t be fooled by google reviews! Food was overall below average. Burnt, shrivelled fried...
Read moreDong Son Restaurant is hands down my favourite Asian restaurant in Sydney! I go there once or twice a week — whether it’s for breakfast or dinner, it always hits the spot.
Their 金边粉 (both dry and soup) is absolutely delicious — rich in flavour, perfectly cooked, and so satisfying every time. The congee is also amazing — warm, comforting, and full of flavour.
Honestly, everything on the menu is good. The food is consistent, the portions are generous, and the taste is always on point.
But what makes it even better is the atmosphere — the owners (Uncle and Auntie) are super friendly and kind, and always make me feel welcome. It’s like eating at a friend’s place — warm, casual, and full of heart.
If you're looking for authentic, no-fuss, consistently tasty Asian food, Dong Son Restaurant is the BEST. Highly,...
