Five stars for the atmosphere and the fish and chips and the sweet bartenders. Here are some tips for your visit, especially for those complaining of slow service. This was a delightful stop. So many sweet rooms await, but the gem here is the outside porch looking at the water. We earned our meal by hiking to the lighthouse. ;) Some tips: 1. If you wish to order, you may either scan the barcode or you can go straight to the bar. Just go to the bar If you are nearby and sitting outside. The bar was excellent at being able to quickly and efficiently deliver our Limoncello spritzes (We waited while they made them) and they delivered fish and chips to the table. 2. Although the sauce that was served with the fish and chips was good, I’m going to be silly-American here and suggest that you also ask for some tartar sauce. And we asked for ketchup for the fries; again we’re totally American, and we asked for malt vinegar. They were so sweet about that. We had a Variety of things to dip our fish and chips in, and, frankly, the tartar sauce was excellent! And we make our own tartar sauce. 3. You should take the ferry here. There was absolutely zero parking anywhere. As we were watching people trying to navigate parks, we felt so sorry for them. Ferry. Ferry. Ferry. 4. Lots of fabulous rooms. Inside and outside. The place is much larger than it looks! If you can’t get a seat on the outside porch, there are upstairs tables inside that afford beautiful views as well. Lots of glass to really take advantage of those views! More on our experience. The minute we entered the port from the ferry we could smell the fish and chips and see Doyle’s, and I was delighted with all of these wonderful smells and the vibe of the place, and decided we must go back here. So after spending a day exploring, we capped the afternoon with a trip to Doyle. Two Limoncellos each and two orders of fish and chips later, and we were very satisfied Customers.

Christmas Eve 20 year tradition for my daughter and myself. Today was wonderful. Salt and pepper calamari was exceptional. Thickly sliced, well seasoned and perfectly cooked. Served with lemon and side of aioli. Best I've ever had. Fresh prawns expertly peeled and presented. Served simply with lemon, side dressing and salad. Delicious. The shared mini platter consisting of calamari, BBQ prawns, smoked salmon, natural oysters, Tasmanian scallops, served with lemon and sauce. My daughter enjoyed the salmon and oysters saying they were fresh and clean. The standout being the scallops infused with tomato and nduja pork sausage oil. Absolutely delectable. The Balmain bugs were ok. We'd order something different next time. The Seafood is always the freshest and cooked to order. The menu is always evolving with new dishes but the oldies and goodies still remain. The wait staff were attentive but not smothering. The harbour views are fantastic. Thank you to everyone involved in today. Special shout out to the parking attendant who did a wonderful job in the downpour today. See you next time. Merry Christmas. 🎄

Went here for my birthday - my grandparents have been going here for years and years, and I thought it was finally time to give it a try. Unfortunately, I really disliked it here. I knew it was expensive but expected the food to be top-notch. But the food just didn't deliver for those prices. $53 for fish and chips? You can likely get a better meal from your local fish and chip shop for a third of the price. The portion of fish was good, but the chips were below average. Bright yellow, dry and tasteless. I did enjoy the salt and pepper calamari, so I recommend this dish. The portion was large enough to be a main, so if I ever went again, I would get this. Another thing that I disliked about Doyle's is that there is not adequate shade from the sun. I was there late afternoon, the sun was extremely strong and it was also reflecting in the water so I was getting an extreme amount of sun in my face - they need more umbrellas to adequately block the sun from burning you and blinding you. I am quite sure that I got sun stroke from sitting there. I felt extremely ill towards the end of my meal and had to leave and sit in the shade - I was ill for 2 days after that. Overall, it was quite a negative experience. At $90 per person, I'd expect the food to be phenomenal, but it was mediocre at best. I feel massively ripped off. If it's a nice view you want, grab a fish and chips from a takeaway place and sit on the beach! There's also way better views of the harbour at other places in Sydney.

I had high expectations for this restaurant because it's highly recommended by many travel blogs. The restaurant is located right at the beach next to the dock for Watson Bay so as soon as you land, you'll see the beach and the restaurant. Location wise it's great. There is an outdoor area and indoor area. I sat in the outdoor area overlooking the beach. It's a great place to eat before heading back to Sydney town center. Service wise it's alright but I'm not overly happy with the fact it was never mentioned that the bread costs extra. It's not super expensive but should at least let us know. Also I had to repeatedly tell the waiter to turn on the outdoor heater and by the time I left I'm still not sure whether it's turned on. Also while I made a reservation I wasn't offered whether to be seated inside or outside just told it's here. Food wise that's where I'm a little let down. The fish and chips is only so so but coupled with the $50AU price it's just not worth it. And the baked whole fish is also so so. Basically nothing is good enough to warrant the location or the price. In comparison the fish in chips at the beach shack at Victoria Island in Vancouver was way better. There were several choices for the fish and somehow the waiter wasn't able to describe the difference of the fish well. I chose John Dory because it was like 50 cents more expensive. Overall it's a beautiful place to rest and enjoy the beach but don't expect high culinary standard.

I recently dined at Doyle’s, known for its fish and chips, but the experience was disappointing from start to finish. Despite the high prices, the service and food quality were well below par. To start, the main course was served before the oyster starter. When I pointed this out to the waiter, he merely shrugged and placed the plates down without a word. The oysters eventually arrived, but without any cutlery, adding to the frustration. The salad was a bunch of lettuce leaves that seemed like they had been pulled straight from a packet—no effort was made to dress it up or make it more appealing. The chips, which I expected to be homemade given the price, were clearly not, and many of them were blackened or green. To make matters worse, there was a hair in my husband's dinner. While the fish itself was tasty, I’ve had better from a local chip shop for a third of the price. Additionally, we were not offered any condiments and were never asked if we enjoyed our meal. The only positive aspects of the experience was the barman, who was polite and helpful, the music and the view (most of which can be found at many coastal establishment). Overall, the dining experience was highly unsatisfactory, especially considering the cost. I won't be returning and would not recommend Doyle’s to others.

Without a doubt one of the most memorable meals I’ve ever had! We were lucky in getting a reservation on a table outside, right on the beach edge, which really made the experience. But from the moment we arrived the service was superb, with a knowledgeable member of staff offering recommendations while remaining totally professional and friendly, with no sense of rush for what was a really relaxing afternoon. The views from our water edge table were perfect, and the canopy provided shelter during the brief shower we endured during the the visit. Both the food and drink menus are extensive with something for every occasion. Service is quick and portion sizes large, along with brilliant presentation. With a number of options for their famous fish & chips it stands out from anywhere else and my choice of barramundi was truly delicious. The calamari starter was large enough to share, as was the desert, with everything being so tasty. Even if you’re not in the area this is somewhere worth taking a trip out for, and if you can secure a table outside on a nice day then you won’t be disappointed. I can’t wait to return!
