Hanok Korean BBQ Miranda — Restaurant in Sydney

I had dinner here a few months back with my family, and it was the first and last time that I’ll be eating here. The table that they sat us at had dirty barbecue grills that smelt of oil and fat from the previous customers and the tables and the ground had a kind of greasy film on them, I’m guessing from the oil from the previous customers, what ever they use to clean it’s not working or they just don’t clean properly.

We asked to be seated at another table because the smell from the used barbecue grills at the end of our table, and at the tables behind us in the outdoor area was making us all feel ill and honestly I felt like dry reaching.

The atmosphere in the outdoor area was terrible, Buckets, bins, used cleaning things and grills right near customers eating. The food was okay but overpriced in my opinion.

the service we received from a rude young waitress was terrible, and when we told her, can we please get someone else to serve us because you’re being rude. She all of a sudden started acting extremely nice and helpful. The staff were young and very poorly trained.

We went for someone’s birthday so we had to stay. If I was here by myself I would have left straight away. To be honest the night was a flop because knowing how gross the restaurant was it was hard to eat thinking what the kitchen would be like.

I forgot to leave a review at the time and take photos at the time but walking past now reminded me of how bad our experience actually was so I thought better...

Food quality was horrible, ordered a takeaway, we end up throwing everything away and go get Thai food instead. Especially the octopus salad, it was so chewy, tiny portions, barely any salads. Wedges was undercooked! How?! I had to put it in the air fryer! Bibimbab was ok, just tasteless and 3 very thinly sliced beef. Rice cake…. Hmmm… texture and tastes is like the instant ones where you put it in the microwave. And the seafood soup and tofu is like salt and hot water and scrambled eggs….. I did ask for spicy but I got mild which was fine, but the seafood especially the squid does not look like it’s safe to eat at all. I know bbq meat is what you mainly sell, but that’s no excuse. What ever you decide to offer make sure it’s good quality. I was so excited that we have Korean bbq close by, but I was so disappointed! Very average or slightly below average. Hope people who encounter K-bbq for the first time do not get the wrong perception that this is how K-bbq supposed to be. Please keep your expectations high up!

I would assume there were some changes of management, side dishes quality decreased significantly - even the cutlery is no longer Korean standard like used to.

Original soju was unavailable, few type of meat was unavailable - very disappointing honestly. Spicy cold noodle sauce wasn’t the right sauce (somehow it was the spicy marinated crab sauce), garlic and chilli on side dish weren’t right, just not right. Got 3 lettuce- very sad. No perilla leaves.

I would not recommend here no more, and hope they have regular pest control in place.

Just to be clear, staff were nice! They have done good job - explaining the side dishes upon putting on the table was...
