This Italian restaurant is well known among the local Japanese community, and I had been wanting to visit for years but never quite managed to find the right timing. I recently heard they had started opening for lunch, so I finally had the chance to go for the first time.
The menu was extensive, with both regular and special options available, and I had a hard time choosing just one dish. In the end, I went with the "mentaiko" - cod roe pasta, which I had heard great things about for a long time. It was part of the special menu and came with grated yam - "tororo" on top. My friend ordered the squid ink risotto.
The pasta was perfectly cooked with a perfect texture that was absolutely delightful. The squid ink risotto had a strong flavour, which was a bit rich for my personal taste, but it was one of those dishes you find yourself wanting to try again — it had a unique and addictive quality.
The tables were generously spaced, and the overall layout created a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. We had a lovely, unhurried lunch.
I also heard that they have opened a casual café next door to the main restaurant, offering lighter meals such as sandwiches. I’ve already heard great things about them, so I’m definitely curious to check it out next time.
I will absolutely...
Read moreWent in yesterday and asked the head chef to cook me a meal. I wanted the environment and the pleasant atmosphere to decide what I am going to eat for dinner. The head chef politely asked what my preference was, to which I replied " I like food that is prepared with passion". The kitchen got busy and next thing I see is this magnificent pasta dish coming my way. It looked amazing and the taste, OMG! - magnificently balanced flavours, beautiful colour, texture and presentation. I take pride in my cooking so I can tell when I see the same passion in others. I was blown away by the perfection of that dish - going back tonight for the same thing so I can memorize its name… It wasn’t an easy task to accomplish by any means and possibly putting pressure on the head chef who impressed me beyond words! Pure magic, that dish deserves all stars in the visible universe! I got inspired, learnt something new, left satisfied like a King. Thank you!
Edit: Went back twice, the pasta was the niso based and also had the seafood...
Read moreWhile I love modern italian, I can't help but also falling in love with wafu pasta (japanese style). The japanese seasoning seems to magically marry the italian style seamlessly.
Jicca Dining is a japanese x italian cafe featuring pasta as well as small dishes. I took my parents on the weekend and we all enjoyed it. The school prawn karaage was so addictive..and it is a perfect match with beer! The garlic chicken giblets were good too, though personally I prefer grilling that and enjoy it with a pinch of salt. Compared to many places, I think the pasta portion here is relatively generous.
The interior of the cafe is very comforting with a shoes off corner (fenced) for kids to play toys/read books.
The entire meal costs $80 for 3 adults. Given the area location and the quality of food, I think is very reasonable.
I would definitely return and try out other pasta. I remember their mentaiko pasta...
