Angry, aggressive service from barista (think her name was salna/ salpa) at Kurtosh Darling Square, in response to me politely asking why my chai teapot was less than half full.
Since it's my usual order from Kurtosh branches, I was surprised that the tea pot was so light when I picked it up to pour, so lifted the lid to find no trace of tea leave/spices in the mesh strainer, and it was LESS THAN HALF FULL, which instigated my enquiry. Word of warning - If getting anything in a tea pot, check they aren't skimping on your order guys🤔
Upon questioning, she became enraged, almost shouting at me "have you even poured it yet?"... Well, no, there was hardly enough to fill half a cup, hence I brought it back to clarify 🤦🏻♀️. She then proceeded to pour cold milk over the tea pot, which spilt all over the bench, then she slammed the lid on top of it... Quite the tantrum. Be warned, your chai may come on the scant side, and with rage issues! 😑
Another server, whom I presumed to be the manager on the night, had a bit more sense, apologised and told her to just remake it, so that was one saving grace for this place.
Although their menu states that their version of chai has "freshly brewed tea leaves", this isn't the case. Since I was there waiting for the remake, I witnessed angry barista "make one fresh" by pouring brown liquid from a plastic bottle into the tea pot, then adding steamed milk on top. Not as per the menu, and certainly not how the other Kurtosh branches I've been to (Surry Hills and Randwick) make the advertised chai 🫖☕
Would not recommend this branch if you don't fancy barista temper tantrums with your sips. If you're keen to try a Kürtősh, experience service with a smile, and chai as advertised, saunter over to the Surry Hills or Randwick branches, the latter branch clearly LOVE what they do 🥰. Never again at Kurtosh Darling Square.

Read moreI usually enjoy my cakes from here and have been a fan of Kurtosh since their first ever store at Randwick.
I was disappointed today with the customer service. A guy with AirPods on came to serve me. I wanted the raspberry cheesecake and the cake on display had corner bits sticking out while the middle bit was also exposed for cutting. I only wanted a small piece and so I wanted to ensure they don’t give me an entire piece of the brown corner for my little one. The guy was very inflexible on how I get my cut and said if he gave me my requested cut then other customers won’t want the piece (so I should take the corner that others don’t want???). He just refused to give me a cut with less edge and then he made a random horizontal cut in the cake and I just gave up and asked him to make a vertical cut where he left it. I feel like I wasted so much time trying to explain to him what I wanted while he was insisting the cut he wanted to give me rather than understanding and offering me what I wanted or even an alternative.
He also packaged the cake in such a small box that the two cakes I got stuck together. So the cheesecake for the little one had coffee and chocolate stuck on it from the tiramisu…so I had to try to scoop it off before my little one can eat it…
Other staff were usually great but this staff just didn’t feel like he cared…
Edit= The manager and branch supervisor were very keen to improve the customer service. I spoke with both of them and got a clear explanation of the situation and apology. I am very happy with how they dealt with my case. I am keen to return again for the cakes...
Read moreThis a cozy cafe that specialises in a Hungarian pastry, famously known as the “chimney cake”. The pastries are made to order and are delicious!! They’re made from a sweet yeast dough which is spun around a spit, which creates it’s cylinder shape. It’s then brushed with melted butter and torched, coated with sugar and finished off with toppings of your choice!! I chose to order one with Nutella & Walnut, another with Pistachios and they did not disappoint.
🍫 My personal favourite was the Nutella & Walnut combination. It’s so crispy and generously covered in Walnuts on the outside, and the inside is so soft and chocolaty. It’s perfect with a cup of coffee and I honestly couldn’t get enough 🥺💘
🍰 Kurtosh also has an extensive variety of slabs that you must try! You order by weight which is a great concept. I tried the Cookies & Cream, Hazelnut Truffle and Tiramisu.
🍪 My favourite was the Cookies & Cream, the texture combination of the creamy slab and the cookie chunks was just oh myyyy🤤😍 and don’t even get me started on how perfectly balanced the coffee, chocolate and cream flavours of the Tiramisu slab was. The flavour combinations of the Hazelnut and Truffle are a must try!! The slabs here are just 🤌 and are perfect to satisfy your sweet tooth!! I can’t wait to visit again to try their other flavours 🙌
I highly recommend visiting this cafe and exploring their range of desserts and, their one of a kind Kurtosh! You can...
