In the heart of Oxford Street sits Kenny’s Pork Rolls, a little joint that serves up some of the best bánh mì I've had in a long time.
You walk in and the first thing you notice is the mural on the left which I believe was done by Sam Shennan. The range of illustrations from street signs to food to a bikini top, sit on the top of the vibrant pride colours which keeps in theme with every other business on Oxford Street.
Kenny is probably the most welcoming business owner I've ever come across and I think this is what makes him different from a lot of other people and what makes this place so great. He greeted every single person who walked through the door in the time that we were there, by name. He has obviously built relationships with each and every one of his customers, which is a lovely thing to see.
We were served up 3 of his most popular rolls. Look how beautiful they look against that mural though.
The first roll I tried was the ‘Chicken Schnitzel’ and it was just so delicious. It went perfectly with Kenny’s in-house mayonnaise and pate, along with the fresh vegetables and signature sauces. Of course, the ‘Signature Crispy Pork Roll’ was to die for and yes, it was crispy! We were given more pork crackling to cut into and it was the right amount of crunch and flavour. The ‘Slow cooked Beef Roll’ was also a pleasure to eat.. I mean, you can't go wrong with beef that's been slow cooked for 8 hours, right?!
For those who want a lighter option, Kenny also offers salad bowls. The same delicious meats but served on top of fresh salads and sauces. We had the ‘Signature Crackling Roast Pork bowl’, the ‘Veggie Spring Roll Salad Bowl’ and my favourite, the ‘Soft Shell Crab Bowl’. I can't begin to describe how good that soft shell crab was! I'm drooling just thinking about it.
As well as the traditional rolls and the salad bowls, we also got to try the chips, marinated chicken wings, veggie spring rolls and curry puffs. No surprise here, they tasted...
Read moreKenny's does a really great pork roll ($14). I was already looking forward to eating here, but the experience exceeded my expectations. The roll is so moreish. The vegetables are all really fresh and eat well together. The roast pork is a standout. It is so succulent and soft. It had a really good flavour and was cooked and seasoned well. I really loved the crackling, too. Although the roll did not look as large as some other banh mi I've had, it is filling and left me satisfied. The whole roll was enjoyable and just so easy to eat!
The shop is small and unassuming. It is impeccably clean. I came during a weekday lunch, and there was a steady stream of customers eating in and ordering takeaway. Service here is excellent. It is sincere, helpful, courteous, and efficient. I was given a warm greeting on arrival. I wasn't sure what to order straight away, but staff happily gave me recommendations. They catered to my asks. I was also given a really friendly farewell.
The store happily accepts cash and card. Hospitality is done well at Kenny's Pork Rolls. I would recommend...
