It’s new year’s eve and i thought, what’s a better way to end the year than some delicious food?. i opened menulog at 10 pm and started my search for the yummiest food i could eat going into the new year. i saw that KFC was open and taking orders. what’s better than some finger licking good chicken? i picked what i wanted and ordered, knowing they closed at 11 but assuming since i’ve done this with many other fast food places before, that i’d definitely get my food before then. My order was CONFIRMED and ACCEPTED.
thirty minutes had passed and doubt began to set now realising that ordering on new years night maybe wasn’t the best decision considering there may not be alot of drivers out there.
Once it hit 10:45, i was now freaking out. i clicked to cancel my order and it informed me that i wouldn’t get the full refund since they had already used product to make my order. So i decided to not be lazy and see if i could quickly drive down there and pick it up anyway (this is something i should’ve just done in the first place).
Firstly i gave them a ring to see if my plan was even possible, i was then met with a woman who said “actually we closed an hour ago” i was stunned. absolutely appalled, and frankly quite upset that there’s now a 90% chance i will not be starting the new year finger licking good nor will i get all of my money back for cancelling this order. I told her that i had placed the order an hour ago and she read out my order number and asked if this was my order. i confirmed it was. and she said she’s unable to do the order since they’re out of product. Not only did they say they were closed, they CONFIRMED the order and she was also aware that i had ordered an HOUR ago.

From the store located 308-310 Queen Street Campbelltown at 9:07pm I received both a confirmation text for estimated time of delivery (9:33pm) at 9:09pm and a link to track the order. However at 9:32pm one minute before food was due to be delivered I received a call from the door dash driver assigned to my delivery. She explained that the store had called her to advice that my order had been cancelled as they do not do deliveries after 9pm. The upsetting part was after they had explained this to the driver she asked the store whether they would contact me to advise me that my order was cancelled and the manager responded with "no, but you can if you want". I found this very upsetting because if the door dash driver hadn't asked the KFC store may not have even notified me or would have just let the automated cancellation message explain it to me. The door dash driver was made to feel uncomfortable by the store manager for having been put in the position to explain why my order had been cancelled. I did not receive the automated message from KFC to advise about my order being cancelled until 9:40pm. And before I received that message I called the store to try and discuss getting my refund, but no one answered. I believe the issue lies with the KFC app itself as it should not allow you to place an order for delivery if the store will not be able to fulfil the order and should be addressed. The managers attitude was very poor and I felt sorry for the door dash driver for being put in that position to explain my cancelled order as if it was just palmed off to her.
