Our first time at this 6 month old, new restaurant in Darlinghurst and we had one of the best food experiences in recent times! 👍👍👍😍 Food menu is so different to most Indian restaurants! They said it’s ‘rebellious’ and I remember reading “fusion” somewhere, but it was more Indian and less fusion, although I can see some great fusion takes in the menu, like Vada Bao Buns, Paneer Pesto Tikka, Fenugreek Thepla Chicken Taco, Ricotta Dahi Ke Kabab, etc…but the mains were mainly Indian dishes from different parts of India, Kashmir, Punjab, Goa, Mumbai, Konkan, Kerala, North India, etc, the mains firmly held on to the Indian roots!🥰 We had the Prawn Koliwada for starters😋, which was lip smacking and a perfect starter! For mains we had Chicken Xacuti and Kashmiri Lamb Shank Roganjosh with steamed jeera rice and garlic Naan. Both were delicious, 🤤we could not pick one over the other, but the chicken was ever so slightly more delicious than the lamb which was a bit spicy for my complete enjoyment! But ooh the lamb was falling off the bone like there was no tomorrow 😃and the chicken was cooked perfectly well!👌 It was great chatting with the owner Maninder too, who happily shared titbits about the restaurant and himself. The service was above average and the restaurant was half empty to our surprise as we had made prior reservation thinking it would be packed, after seeing such high ratings and reviews. Although we were asked about the feedback on food a bit too soon, before we could taste it all properly, but that was least of our concerns as we could not have picked a better Indian restaurant in town! The ambience and decor of the restaurant is very vibrant and great representation for India 🇮🇳 and suits the name of the restaurant “Madam ji” literally meaning a “sassy urban Indian woman” 💁‍♀️ Would love to go there again and try new dishes on their menu as the owner said they change it every few months! I highly recommend everyone to try this new gem 💎 in town! 🤘😃👍 Please don’t loose your uniqueness, great food and service! P.S: Just a note to say that my Aussie born partner was a bit bothered by the incense sticks burning at the bar, but thankfully the open window and entryway helped diffuse it, and when the food arrived, it was out of our mind. But it may help to reconsider burning strong incense as people may not always find it comfortable for too long!

From the very beginning, this restaurant impressed us. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by a gentleman who took the time to explain the menu and offerings in detail, which really set the tone for the evening. The space itself is beautifully designed, with a modern yet harmonious ambience that makes you feel comfortable and excited to dine. The food was the true highlight. Every dish we tried was full of flavour and crafted with care. The duck vindaloo was a standout. Rich, bold, and beautifully balanced. We also had the lamb shank roghan josh, which was tender and full of depth. The chicken tikka, perfectly marinated and cooked, and the chicken chettinad masala, which had layers of spice and authenticity that we really loved. We also tried a few entrees and all were outstanding. And of course, the garlic naan paired with it all was just amazing. Drinks were just as memorable. Their signature cocktail made with jamun deserves a special mention. It was unique, with a magical balance of savoury and refreshing notes that you won’t find anywhere else. Altogether, this was an outstanding dining experience. The combination of thoughtful service, stunning design, and unforgettable flavours makes this restaurant an easy five-star destination. We’ll definitely be coming back!

100% RECOMMENDED!!! I'm so glad that we got the best Indian restaurant in the heart of the city now! I've tried numerous Indian restaurants in Sydney, and this one is my favourite now. The food is absolutely delicious! No white washing!!! Finally, a place that offers the best Indian food with authentic taste. We started with Corn Ribs & Arancini, and it was absolute bliss! Corn ribs are common, but the seasoning made it mouth watering! And we could not have enough with Arancini. A cheese ball with a twist of dal khichdi, something that had our minds blown! For the drinks, we had Designated Driver and Lychee Love. The drinks were good but not something we were looking for. But the head chef and bartender were happy to help and presented us with absolutely delicious drinks! For the first time, I saw staff taking efforts to fix their drinks and rather just saying, "Fine, refund it." The main course was equally delicious, naan were soft and eatable and not chewy at all. We had Handi Sabz, and it was delicious. The sabzi had the Indian taste that reminded me of home. I always look for the same taste in any other Indian restaurant and have been disappointed. Overall, our experience with MadamJi was great! The service was excellent! I will definitely visit again!
