The staff were very friendly and enjoyed the cozy little space that they had. My partner and I had the fish katsu and the seafood yaki udon respectively.
The fish katsu had a coleslaw which tasted similiar to KFC's which unfortunately was disappointing. The fish was hot, but the rice was cold. Upon taking a bite, it wasn't anything special - nothing particularly to make me want to order it again. The dish itself did not look appetising upon being served.
My seafood yaki udon looked like it had volume and was served on a grill plate and was topped off with a generous amount of bonito flakes. However, that was all I tasted; this dish had lacked seasoning and 'umami' overall and felt dry in the mouth. The veggies and seafood did not work well with the udon noodles.
I can't speak for other people as they generally seem to enjoy the sushi and other dishes from this place. It is important to note that this is the only Japanese restaurant visibly at Lindfield, and therefore has a monopoly.
However, based on my personal experience of travelling around food areas in Sydney, this place has great potential to improve on its dishes, but is currently...
Read moreMakiato Sushi is a hidden gem offering some of the freshest sushi in town. Every bite bursts with flavor, and you can really taste the quality of the ingredients. Whether you're a sushi connoisseur or just a casual fan, there's something here for everyone. The rolls are creative and beautifully presented, making each dish feel like a little work of art.
What really stands out, though, is the friendly owner-operator team. It’s clear they genuinely care about their customers, and that personal touch makes all the difference. In a world where chain restaurants often feel impersonal, supporting a small business like Makiato Sushi feels good. They take pride in their work, and it shows in the food and service.

Read moreI haven't been here that often, but my experiences have been very good so far. On paper, the sushi rolls are a bit pricey, but the serving size and quality us the real deal. The rice is about as well cooked as it can get, not hard, but not too mushy either.
The chicken makiato roll is really their own creation. A much, much better experience than your standard teriyaki rolls. Goes straight down, with flavour, warmth, and perfectly cooked chicken. No single ingredient is too strongly flavoured, letting all of it blend together.
Id consider all of their rolls as actual dishes, rather than copy-pasted treats.
The staff are really, really welcoming too. I will be back to try...
