Mazi Dining at The Lantern Club in Roselands is well-appointed and sets the stage for a great dining experience, however, opinions on the food offered at Mazi seem to vary.
The Seafood Marinara presented well, but alas, the overcooked pasta and lackluster flavours left much to be desired.
The Caribbean Butterflied Baby Snapper with a side of Rice, Greens, Coconut Molee, and Herb Salad was presented with a small dried-out snapper, plus a meagre portion of greens (two tiny broccoli florets), and the minuscule herb salad (a lone coriander sprig). The rice was plentiful. Sauce was tasty.
Fritto Misto, a promising choice. Lightly battered Flathead, Salt and Pepper Squid, Szechuan Prawns, Salad, Chips, and Tartare Sauce made for a pleasing plate.
The Pork Belly received a nod of approval for its taste, but alas, the portion size was on the small side.
Two of the seven plates arrived late with a 8 to 10-minute interval which kind of wrecked the dining experience, especially those polite diners who waited to eat when...
Read moreWe’ve been members and coming here since the newly Lantern Club opened many years ago and always had a lovely experience and brought many of our friends and family here also. Dropped in for lunch this weekend and was extremely disappointed how much Mazi restaurant has declined. Nowhere to sit because all the empty tables still had dirty plates and glasses still on them. We counted 9 tables around us uncleared and dirty. We stood at one of the tables for a while hoping the 2 staff leaning on their elbows at the kitchen would notice and come and clear for us but the lovely girl at the bar saw us and rushed over to clear it. Paid just under $30 for a beetroot salad with grilled chicken. The very ordinary salad arrived without the chicken. No cutlery at the table. Waiter said he would bring some but never came back. Sorry Mazi, you Can’t charge those prices with such poor service. Sorry Lantern, used to be a great little club but we won’t be choosing to...

Just a note of caution – the drinks were more potent than expected, so sip carefully!
