We had an awful experience on a nice, sunny Saturday afternoon in this so called pub (with a cafe look and feeling). We ordered our food and beers, some of us wanted to have coffee as well. So, we bought takeaway coffee from the cafe next to this pub (actually they are both under the same roof with a passage in between but separate businesses). The guy in the entrance of the beer garden (yes there’s a guard there which checks if people are bringing any food or drink from outside) didn’t allow us to take the coffees in. I told him that we had already ordered food and drinks and these were just some extras for a few of us (‘cause they don’t serve coffee). It was impossible to explain it to this guy and we got into a quarrel with him. He was so rude by pointing out to my accent and country that I come from (without having any idea where I’m from), saying that it might be normal to bring coffee to a pub from outside in my country but this is not the case here in Australia. I asked him why they were too strict, they already made money from us and we just wanted to please some of us with a touch of coffee, that’s it. We explained it to the pub manager as well but she wasn’t helpful at all. So, we ended up cancelling our orders and left that place which is run by such narrow minded people. Unfortunately, such a beautiful day was ruined by those people. It’s beautiful location but in...

!!EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING!!

What a beautiful location for a cafe, the serenity of Hyde park is unreal. However this beautiful space is completely wasted by one of, if not the most disappointing cafe I have EVER visited, because..

I was looking to dine in, when I approached the gentlemen requesting to do so, I was redirected to some sort of kiosk, from the kiosk my request to dine in was again knocked back. As I approached the original gentleman, I waited what must of been 3 minutes for him to finish his conversation with a fellow colleague.. when I was told the lunch menu that was on the bar was not available for another 15 minutes, when I questioned what was available at that time (as I was on my lunch break) the gentleman was very abrupt and rude, I requested for the manager and unfortunately he was the manager.

This cafe is completely backwards, there is minimal to no customer service... you have to get your own cutlery and utensils, the staff do not pay any attention to their customers, I saw 1 young lady out of all the staff there doing anything... she was the only one consistently clearing tables and attending to customers.

The menu change overs reflect how lazy the owners/managers are. For one example, after a certain time you can only get a coffee in a take away cup, which minimises the amount of washing up the staff have to do..

I do not recommend...

We are so disappointed with the manager of Metro restaurant by St. James station, Sydney. We are tourists visiting Sydney this week. Spent $60 at Metro to enjoy lunch. The French waitress who served us was really friendly and helpful. After lunch we watched a few people playing chess nearby, and our 3 year old wanted to use the rest room. I went back with our 2 children, and asked the waitress if it will be fine to use the rest room for her. She agreed with a smile and pointed us to the rest room. On the way in we were stopped by the manager, who told us they are closing soon and we will not be able to use the rest room. ( He knew we have just enjoyed lunch there as I greeted him on my way to the rest room earlier) He told me that if I follow the steps down next to the station, I will find another rest room there. We followed his instructions, only to find a really smelly and dirty toilet located next to the station... which meant we had to rush to the shopping mall one block away to find a rest room for our 3 year old.. To the manager of Metro- We have just spend $60 at your restaurant, and you would not allow my 3 year old to use your rest room, but rather send us away to use a rest room you would not use yourself let alone your children- as it is so bad.. So disappointed in...

Found this gem in Hyde Park and yes… they have a pasta bar where you can top your fave pasta with a WHOLE burrata 👀 @Metro_St_James Perfect for a weekend brunch or a midday escape from work 🤭 @hannahjoydiary 🌸Spinach & Cheese Pizza 9/10 Super creamy and cheesy. The homemade pizza base was chef’s kiss, totally unexpected 🌸Big Breakfast 8.5/10 All that you can ask for in a big brekkie, big portions, sourdough and @pepesayabutter 🌸Aqua Fresh and Go Green juices 8.5/10 Refreshing fruit juices made freshly in house 🌸Carbonara 8/10 Authentic style carbonara with plenty of cheese and pepper 🌸Gamberi with Burrata added 9/10 Creamy burrata paired very well with the bright tomato sauce and large prawns 🌸Daddy’s Green Bowl 8/10 Salad loaded with Halloumi and creamy from the avocado. The pomegranate added a lovely touch 🌸French Toast 8.5/10 Loads of fruit and topped with a scoop of ice cream. The toast itself was thick and fluffy #MetroStJames #SydneyEats #HydePark #Burrata #cafe #sydney #foodie #recommended #fyp

Oh my, how things have changed since a few years back. Yes, the location is still beautiful (but they have added barriers to hide the Hyde park chess set), but gone are all the french influences and it is obvious that the bistro/cafe has changed hands. No more steak tartare, no more rillette or pate. Replacing these are burgers, schnitzels anrnd pizzas. It has gone full blown pub food at quite expensive prices. $25 for quite a mediocre and small pizza, with the thinnest, floppiest base which left us feeling still hungry. Sorry, at these prices, they should make at least an effort to deliver honest pub grub, but this is just plain disappointing. Check the photos for the size and thinness of the pizza. It is pretty much equivalent to a frozen pizza unfortunately (and it came out as quickly, but this is not surprising due to the thinness of the the bas) Food drastically needs to improve, otherwise it is not worth another visit.

A fabulous setting perfectly situated to what we needed - Hyde Park Barracks and St James station. It was a shame the food didn't meet expectations. A plate of chips that were like small offcuts of potato and two pieces of well overcooked battered fish which either disappeared or fell to pieces when you removed the batter. Tomato and tartare sauces on the side, but a minute amount of each that didn't go anywhere to serving the purpose, and none of the salad shown in photographs online. Topped off with a cup of bitter coffee, made the experience very disappointing. The only salvation was the setting
