We stayed at the Castlereagh Boutique Hotel on Friday the first of Aug for my wife's 60th birthday. We and eight of my friend's attended the Magic show held there that evening. The Wednesday night the 30th of July I personally called the Hotel inquiring of the availability of food for my guests before the show and if it would be available in the bar. The answer was surprising to say the least, "Yeah chips and stuff". I then asked what was the "Stuff?" "Fish & Chips and stuff" that should of rang the alarm bells.
We arrived on the Friday afternoon and checked in. We were allocated room 902 which the Receptionist pointed out, was one of the recently renovated rooms. The room itself was clean and tidy although the size was a bit disappointing considering the cost for one night's accommodation.
I'm not a building expert, but whoever renovated the room did a poor job, from the nails driven into skirting, so hard crushing the board, to the poorly patched hole in the wall and the wallpaper ripples, mismatched tiles in the bathroom floor, tile grout still on the walls in lumps and the uneven floor waste. The room windows do not seal and are cracked and were held closed with a small packet of brown sugar which was jammed in the locking mechanism. (photos available) I'm sure there would be a few old Masons turning in their graves.
After meeting our guests in the bar for per show drinks and a meal we were very disappointed to find the kitchen was closed for renovations, despite the sign in the foyer stating the kitchen would be closed from the 4th of August. The only things on offer were a pretty poor excuse for a Plough Mans Plate or a Pie. Needless to say, UBER eats was discussed.
After the Magic show concluded around 9:00pm, we were invited to the bar by the Magician to discuss and ask any questions about the show, To our surprise and disappointment the bar was closing last drinks called and no cocktails were available. Even the Magician was surprised considering there were at least 14 people from the show who had taken up the offer of a chat.

Read moreI stayed at this beautiful heritage listed art deco hotel Wed. 10th April - Thur. 11th April 2024. When I saw the beauty of the building outside I was excited for what would be waiting inside. I was not disappointed, I immediately realised it was a heritage listed building (if not it should be). The hotel is ornate yet simply elegant, Art Deco aesthetically pleasing. One didn't know where to look first. I congratulate the owners with their outstanding job in keeping the decor true to the building era.
I have stayed at many, hotels both in Australia and overseas. From memory it is my first time in a Boutique Hotel.
I all honesty and with pleasure I can write, I have never been greeted by a reception team that were genuinely happy and ready to help before like the team at the Castlereagh. It was infectious.
I loved that the lift had the most unique key security I had seen before. I found it whimsical, that when going from reception up to your floor. One puts the key in the key lock and turns it then presses their floor level. This is part of the experience sonI hope it isn't updated.
The room (queen beed and single bed) was just perfect and again I was impressed they had kept to the era of the hotel. It was very clean, great amenities and just perfect. My only issue is and it is with all hotels, why do they only give you one shower cap? I was with a carer and she needed a shower cap too but I used it first. All hotel from ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ down do to the same.
I have a few disabilities and we were going to see Chris Isaak that night. Which meant I needed to take it very easy and slow the next day.
I requested a late check out if possible and even offered to pay. However, they were more than accommodating in allowing us to have a later check out. Which was made a massive difference for me.
I thank the amazing staff members at Castlereagh Boutique Hotel from the room cleaning to reception.
My friend and I both agree after our stay, Boutique Hotels are the way to go.
Highly recommend the hotel. Neither of us had anything but ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ to say about it. Location is...
Read moreArrived earlier than expected from our disney cruise. Given that we have travelled a lot for work, we know that we are very early so cant check in yet. Approached the receptionist and asked if we can leave our luggage and will come back earlier. Said nothing except for "sure" handed out a piece of paper for us to come to claim later. Comes 3pm, cue was long in reception, our turn came. Same, no greetings, nothing at all, not to mention her can't be bothered face and approach. Asked, "how do you want to settle your account?". As was surprised, have asked my partner who was waiting at the lobby and looked for our booking as was confused. We asked her to "entertain the guests" next to us as we were stoll retrieving the booking. Did not acknowledge until the third time when she said "entertain, that is a strange word". As I didn't want to spoil my holiday, I did not react to her petty argument. It is very ironic as she is for sure Asian, with a very thick Asian accent.||||I then asked, if we can downgrade as the third person wasn't able to travel with us. Said "No!" and she almost close to yelling! As again, dont want to spoil the trip, I paid 1200 AUD for 4 nights for a room without any window and sunlight. It is like sleeping in a box! I then searched through booking.com and agoda that there are still 3 vacant rooms in the same hotel with a queen bed.||||All throughout this receptionist named Cindy's approach was apalling! I would have given 0 star if it was an option. She is outright rude, unprofessional and sarcastic! She should not be working as a receptionist.||||I emailed the reception head who said they will investigate but I have never heard back as to the progress of my complaint.||||I scrolled through Tripadvisor and I have noticed that there were previois complaints about a rude receptionist who Im pretty sure is the same person.||||Castlereagh needs to do better with theit...
