Went there for first time with my parents after the Papa Rich disappointment (not being racist but there's been many customer complaints ever since Indians took over, the dishes were never consistent, and bad service too)....
June 11, Sunday, went back there first time to try out Nam Yang that replaced Papa Rich, it was far more better by millions!!!
Service by waitstaffs were brilliant. Atmosphere was good as well. (Same or similar set up to Papa Rich with a few changes, they didn't have to change much anyways, and they changed the menu from Papa Rich to Nam Yang menu).
Food was absolutely delicious!! Spot on!!! Salted egg wedges were awesome!! Had the crispy texture on the outside. Hainan chicken laksa was delicious and smooth. The fried chicken with fried rice was brilliant, the rice had the "wok hei" what they call it in Cantonese, or better known as it had the aroma. Crispy chicken was cooked right. Wasn't too dry, it wasnt dry at all. And chicken was tender and juicy on the inside. Blue rice with prawn was also delicious!! These are recommended dishes and if I wanted a second I'll go straight for these dishes. Absolutely loved it!!! And another thing that has changed seems to be the staffs, Papa Rich had rude and impolite and impatient staff members that didn't care about anything. Even the customers. Even the food quality and quantity... Last time I was at Papa Rich and my dad had the laksa...there was only ONE SLICE OF STEAM CHICKEN!!!! out of the whole bowl of laksa, it was LESS than half bowl of noodles and the rest were just soup. Absolute rip off!!! And I saw through the kitchen and I knew it was an Indian that made this. 😡 Stingy people back then!!! I'm glad the Papa Rich closed down, they deserved it.
With Nam Yang, the staffs were like a mix between European, Aussie, Asian and middle eastern people. And they were ALL nice tonight. MOST OF ALL, COMPLIMENTS TO THE CHEF.
Hopefully it stays this consistent with staff attitudes towards customers, and food quality and quantity was spot on....
Definitely be back to try something else!!!. A huge thank you to all the staffs tonight. Tonight's overall cost for $88 was well worth it. A MUST TRY salted egg potato wedges. (For those who aren't allergic to eggs that is).
Nam Yang Bankstown, a huge thank you!!! And with appreciation to ALL the staffs tonight. (5pm - 6:30pm, 11th June, 2023). KEEP...
Read morePreviously this was Papa Rich but is now under new management / ownership. Dined here on the opening month of the new restaurant. We were kindly offered 20% discount as part of the opening month promo.
Unfortunately, the above were the only highlights of the experience. The food was mediocre; Overcooked rice, varying ratios of portions and tad-salty.
In particular, the service was not great. Although the restaurant was quite empty, there was no waiters to take the orders. The orders had to be written by the patrons on a slip of paper which inadvertently led to one of the orders being forgotten to be ordered.
Meanwhile , 30 mins prior to the kitchen close, all the staff members including kitchen members and waiters were enjoying their own dinner (pizza + garlic bread) on the other side of the restaurant. Again, no-one available to check up on status of patrons or place new order for food/drink. It is also not the most professional look.
I believe considering that 'Nan Yang' is a new player in Bankstown, they really should consider incorporating the feedback and look to improve their service and food. Otherwise, thriving in this competitive market will be very challenging...[take notes from 'The House...
Read moreBe warned that the service is very slow!!!! However, I do understand that they just opened and that the staff here still need more training in ensuring customers get their menu, water to their table and orders taken. Only one staff member on the floor looked like she had previous experience and had a sense of urgency/ time-keeping in serving customers. It also took about half an hour for the first dish to arrive and then another 20 minutes for the second dish. Note that the restaurant was not full. The egg gravy dish was yummy and a large portion but didn’t taste authentic. The Nadi Kerabu with assam prawns had fragrant rice and a really strong sour chilli sauce on the prawns. It was interesting… not an enjoyable flavour for me. The sambal was also quite disappointing as it didn’t have the spicy kick.
I believe that this restaurant will improve in the future and will come back then. They offered a 20% discount for their grand opening, so if you don’t mind the wait, definitely...
