Hi there,
I’m Simon, your host for Friday Karaoke, and I just want to say how grateful I am for the opportunity to entertain such a fun-loving crowd against the iconic backdrop of Bondi Beach. The energy, the people, and the moments we share make every night unforgettable.
Karaoke isn’t just about singing—it’s about building people up. It’s about giving someone the chance to feel like a rock star, to step into a dream, even if just for one night. And let’s be honest, I do my fair share of singing too! Whether you're up on stage or just here for the vibes, you are what makes this night special.
But if we want to keep nights like this alive, we need support.
As a performer, I take a cut between a third party, so you could call me a working class man. And I’m not alone in that. Local entertainers, venue staff, and the businesses that thrive around nightlife all rely on a system that values live entertainment over poker machines. It's a tough thing to compete against.
Unfortunately, a major barrier we face is parking fees. Nightlife workers shouldn’t have to give up a quarter of their night’s wages just to do their jobs. A simple solution? A designated loading zone next to the club. It’s a small change that would make a big difference for those of us working to keep Sydney’s entertainment scene vibrant.
If you're reading this and you care about local nightlife, know that much of what you enjoy is directly affected by how amazing it is just to have a loading zone for the venues and operators. Compare the support given to nightlife in places like Paddington or Waterloo—why shouldn’t Bondi’s scene get the same respect?
Sydney’s nightlife has been under attack for years. If we don’t fight for venues like this—places that honor our veterans and prioritize live entertainment over slot machines—we risk losing them. And make no mistake, poker machines make a lot of money. If we want more spaces that prioritize live entertainment, we need to protect the people who make it happen.
So here’s my message to the locals, the council, and the patrons: Support the club. Support the performers. Support the people who make your nights memorable.
Because when you fight for us, we fight to make every night the best night possible.
See you at karaoke!

Read moreDisappointing and unwelcoming first experience. We weren’t greeted by staff and stood at the front for a bit before getting someone behind the bar to help with our booking. The two of us were seated at a table for 10 in a separate glass room alone with a sign that said the room was closed, and chairs were stacked up along the wall. Despite there being many open tables, we were told they were all booked. We first thought we may be underdressed and seated away from everyone due to that, but then noticed there were men wearing thongs, tshirts, tank tops, swim trunks, and one had a beach towel around his neck so that didn’t appear to be the reason. From the outside it seemed like a nice atmosphere and view which is why we booked, but we didn’t expect to be seated in a quiet room alone, separate from the dining room, with only a view of people smoking in the alley. The food quality was nice, but overall bland. No one was ever seated in the room with us. When we left, there were still tables available in the dining room.
Overall a very unwelcoming and confusing experience. Still left wondering why we weren’t seated in the dining room with the other patrons. The only friendly staff was a lovely man at the front desk before we entered...
Read moreNorth Bondi RSL Upon arriving we were greeted and swiftly signed in , we attended for my father's birthday a group of 9. The first impression is amazing, despite the huge storm that was taking place the view of Bondi beach was absolutely stunning. The meals we ordered varied from Chicken Scnitzel $20, Seafood linguine $21 John Dory Fillet $26 Sizzling garlic prawn $24 Penne Bosciola $21 etc to name a few. My meal the John Dory was bland and rather oily , despite saying grilled on the menu, the rest of the party enjoyed their meals but nothing outstanding. The bar staff are very friendly and provide service with a smile however the older gentleman at the bistro cashier has very limited people skills, in my opinion he should not be in the position he is , I felt our requests annoyed him even though it's his job and we were paying customers . At the end of our meals I ordered 5 pots of tea and asked for 10 sugar sachets, he commented how "who has so much sugar? It's bad for you!" I kept reminding myself there were 5 pots of tea and 10 sugars! I didn't like his service at all Never the less, my father enjoyed his evening and that's what mattered most. Would my family return?? I dare say yes mainly because of the...
