Located in a side street in North Bondi overlooking Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach, Speedos has breathtaking views from all seats.
Seemingly super popular with the locals, we watched the barista pump out an amazing amount of takeaway coffees on our morning of visit.
The cafe is modern, bright and open and certainly a comfortable and casual cafe. We were there early morning and can see this being a place you could chill at all day with a juice or coffee, watching the passers by.
Their menu is great, showcasing brunch favourites from big brekkies to bacon and egg rolls, as well as healthy dishes and some incredibly vibrant and colourful instagrammable dishes that not only look good but taste amazing! Speedos even topped the list created by Big Seven Travel magazine which created a list of the top 50 insta worthy cafes across the world. In addition, the cafe has some great options for diners who are vegan nor have gluten and dairy free needs.
We can see why it was voted instagrammable for the food is beautiful, colourful and well presented, and massive on size. My pancake order is testament to thiS. We absolutely loved the caramelised banana and chia vegan pancakes. The vegan pancakes were super tasty, stacked with pieces of caramelised banana between and topped with Berry compote, dragonfruit and half a mango. They were served with raspberries, blueberries, kiwi fruit and a generous pour of maple syrup and sprinkling of pistachio crumble. Whilst the serving was massive, it tasted so good that I managed to finish it all!
We also enjoyed the veggie patch; a beautiful plate with toasted focaccia with grilled eggplant, tri mushrooms, spinach, kale, crispy chickpeas, sugar snap peas and crispy emoki, served with a drizzling of pomegranate and a smear of beetroot labneh. Also a huge serving, that does indeed look like a veggie patch.
If some other healthy options are up your alley, maybe the Acai bowl or blue spirulina bowl topped with fruits would be great as you can find a perfect refreshing brekkie for a warm day.
A range of drinks available from Vittoria coffee, or some favoured lattes like matcha, red velvet or the one I ordered - the gingerbread latte did indeed remind me of a gingerbread cookie! There’s plenty of juice options, smoothies and tea available too. Grab yourself a cruffin, croissant or cookie to go and you’re set for a delicious treat.

Read moreVery disappointing, I have tried contacting Speedo's by email to avoid giving a bad review but after no response, I feel I should highlight this as I don’t believe the service received was acceptable, nor do I believe it’s acceptable to not respond to customer emailing some constructive feedback.
Sadly, my last visit to Speedo’s, was not a good experience compared to previous visits. We didn’t speak to the manager at the time because we were in shock of poor service we received and as it was my mum’s last day in Australia, she didn’t want to cause a fuss, but unfortunately the experience very much tainted her last day in Sydney.
We ordered the Instagrammable pancakes but one of her pancakes was quite badly burnt/thickly charred black and hidden in the middle of the stack. Not great, considering these are what the café is known for so the chef shouldn’t have sent it out like this, but whilst I thought I should highlight this, it is not the main reason for this review.
When we were less than 5 minutes off finishing our pancakes (we had less than ½ of one of the three pancakes left), we were asked to move so that another table could be made out of the table we were on. With both of us having worked in hospitality, we understand that you want to make the most of the tables within the café to get the most covers throughout the day, but this should not be at the detriment of patrons already sat down and in the middle of EATING!!
Customers already eating, are still paying customers as much as those you are finding tables to seat. I am not normally one to complain, but I found the lack of respect to ask customers who are mid-experience and mid-mouthful to move to make way for another table rather than wait a few minutes, really appalling.
I always enjoyed taking visitors to Speedo’s when doing the coastal walk, however, I have since had other friends and family to stay and we have gone for breakfast elsewhere because this experience has left a rather bitter taste – it doesn’t take a lot for an establishment to make you feel like a valued customer, but instead Speedo’s left me feeling like I was just a walking...
Read moreSpeedo’s Café is definitely the kind of place you go for breakfast with a view. Located right by Bondi Beach, it offers that perfect mix of good food, ocean breeze and beautiful sunlight. I went in the morning and the whole setting just made me feel like I was on a slow, peaceful holiday.
The best part has to be the view. Sitting by the window or even outside, you get a clear view of Bondi Beach. The water, the sand, the morning crowd passing by, it all feels very postcard like. If you enjoy starting your day with calm vibes and a bit of people watching, this is a great spot to be.
Food wise, the menu is typical Aussie brunch style. I had a smoothie bowl and coffee. The smoothie bowl came out colourful and generous with toppings. Fresh fruits, seeds and a nice blend that was thick and not watery. Very refreshing. The coffee was decent and did the job. My friend had poached eggs on toast and said it was satisfying, though nothing too adventurous.
Service was friendly and the team seemed used to handling the busy Bondi crowd. Even when it got full, they kept things moving without rushing us.
If you are visiting Bondi for the first time or just want to enjoy a slow breakfast with a coastal view, Speedo’s is a solid pick. You are not going for anything groundbreaking but the setting and vibe make it more...
