Okami is a Japanese all you can eat restaurant with table service. They have grown over the past few years and now have 26 Restaurants in Victoria and 6 in NSW. We have previously visited the Marrickville location, and we also got all you can eat pack during the 2020 covid lockdown. This time, we visited another store in Rose Bay. The restaurant is right down by the water and parking spots are easy to come by.
The restaurant is large and plenty of space to even dine as a group. The concept is excellent. Youu order off the menu and each dish is made to order. You can order everything at once, or as you go. Their all you can eat price is just $36. 80, which is really good value for the amount you can eat, whilst also being of good quality.
The Okami menu is a list of Japanese classics; takoyaki, agedashi tofu, chawan mushi, beef carpaccio, miso soup, edamame, a choice of prawn or vegetarian gyoza, seaweed salad, sushi, sashimi, teriyaki beef and chicken, this just name a few. The sushi / sashimi platter is a great way to taste a variety of fish.
There’s plenty of carbs too; udon, fried rice, spring rolls and tempura.
We especially loved the vegetarian gyoza, as well as the miso beef. This time, we also tried a delicious lightly seared sliced steak; their wagyu carpaccio, served with ponzu sauce and mayo.
The food was excellent and we ordered a good amount of dishes, and since we enjoyed them so much, we got some more afterwards. The sushi and sashimi platters are a great choice too, especially since there’s good variety on the plate. This restaurant is a great place for sharing with friends, since you can order so many things.
We also made room for dessert, the vanilla ice cream and a black sesame taiyaki - fish.
Drink wise, you can BYO for only $5 a bottle or you can buy beer, sake, soft drinks at the restaurant.
Service was efficient and very pleasant, the whole experience being a pleasure to have. A great option to have all your favourite Japanese foods at a...

You can choose to have the buffet menu ($39.80 per person) for any food - drinks cost extra - and a total of 2 hours from your reservation time to dine; or you can choose from their à la carte menu instead. If you've got an average-large appetite, I recommend the buffet option.
🥣 Food was average. The best was the grilled chicken wings, the teriyaki steak, the black sesame icecream, the eggplant salad and surprisingly, the mushroom salad.
The sashimi and sushi platter had decent salmon, however the tuna was very watery tasting. The sushi wasn't very fresh either - the seaweed was mushy so we could tell it had been sitting in the kitchen for a while.
The chicken karaage tasted rubbery and very dry - I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. The yakiniku beef didn't taste the best either, it was extremely bland with limited sauce.
🥃 For drinks, we ordered a jug of lemon lime bitters for $16.80 which amounted to 5 cup servings. Just make sure you stir the contents well, otherwise the top layer will be super syrupy, leaving the bottom layer tasting like water.
🌟 Customer service was great. Whenever we needed something e.g. wanted to order more food, new utensils or a water refill, the staff was extremely accommodating and prompt. Only negative is, it took around 35-40 minutes for the jug of lemon lime bitters and sashimi and sushi platter to arrive at the table... the restaurant was super packed at that time so maybe that was why.
▪️▫️SUMMARY▪️▫️ If you want a cheap eat for a range of Japanese-style food, I would recommend Okami, but make sure you make an online reservation or call to make a booking as the establishment can be super busy. However, if you're looking for quality Japanese food, I would suggest...
Read moreDONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND HUNGER! I am trying to figure out if all reviewee's are all dining at the same restaurant! We love LOVE love a good Japanese meal and have dined in many many places. This was the greatest disappointment to an exciting lead up to a new restaurant opening in our local area. Quality overall was terrible, the salmon sashimi so thin and horrible. and the nigiris, meh and the rest showed no love and respect towards the culinary profession. I have two debit cards, (not credit card) One in my I-phone wallet and one on hand. I did not want to go to trouble and transfer funds. The lady at counter said if I use my i-phone wallet card I will be charged a fee, if I use my card it is no fee... WTH?
I leave a + 10% tip where ever I go, but they lost me both with fees, tips & a return of dining here and all my family & friends who live in the area.
This location has seen so many restaurants in the last 45 years... great at first as far as customers, and then empty. I am hoping your restaurant improves as it is no comparison to Washoku, Den, even sushi train! I even miss the old ASAKUSA on OSH rd so much!
I am not sure with the ingredients or food saver additives.., but I do get reactions to additives and msg. When I got home I was shaky, dizzy and felt very off colour. ...
