On The Soul Side Cafe — Restaurant in Sydney

My husband and I were looking for some coffee one morning after our Airbnb's coffee machine was found to be non-functioning during a stay in Katoomba. Always desiring to seek out amazing local shops, we found On The Soul Side after looking at nearby reviews and it did NOT disappoint! The only thing better than the coffee is the owner. Dave is a stellar owner and barista who clearly loves his job and this is evident in his treatment of his customers. He made me and Cody feel right at home on the other side of the world and has pretty much convinced us to settle in Katoomba just so we can regularly visit his establishment! He easily memorized our order after one visit (and I stopped in 3 days in a row!). His homemade honeycomb ice cream is THE BOMB. I gladly devoured the entire thing at 10am on our way out of town because I needed to try it after seeing it day after day on the menu. The menu is no frills in the best way possible. It contains all of your coffee favorites, plus one toastie and ice cream. Don't expect a full breakfast here (but the ice cream will do just fine!). We happened to stumble upon this hidden gem on a cold and foggy morning. Entering the venue we were greeted by the owner who is friendly and warm and the definition of just a carefree and easygoing bloke.

For coffee lovers, this is a place that you want to visit. The coffee tasted woody, smooth and deep, but not sour or too bitter. Imagine drinking a warm hug...

For people who love the atmosphere, this is a place where you can just feel at home. An old pub that's been refurbished and filled with history, trinkets and other odds and ends, it has an alluring atmosphere that's just able to make you relax. We came here on a Sunday where there is live music which only makes this place so much better. The fire place was amazing, the gentle smell of wood and smoke almost intoxicating, honestly the whole vibe of this place felt almost like a dream that we stumbled across.

We were lucky enough to stumble upon Davies’s café/bar. We were greeted with enthusiasm by the host, as if we were long lost friends. Although Dave was busy taking part in an important (high level) business meeting, he bent over backwards to make our short stay memorable.

He has created a beautiful bar, probably as a result of a massive amount of hard work. The eccentric collection of unusual items is a testament to his unique personality. With the colourful character that Dave has, it is a pleasure to visit this brilliant establishment.
