This was the very first spot we stopped for food in Sydney, and it immediately became the standard by which we judged every other meal. The staff behind the counter was very friendly and courteous, and the food was prepared fresh, so it took close to 20 minutes from the time of order for our roasted chicken, Portugese salad, and spicy rice to be ready. Raz ordered the chicken "very spicy." Generally we don't expect much from that phrase outside our hometown, but we were very impressed with Oporto on their interpretation.
The spices added pack some significant Scovilles, and most importantly no flavor is sacrificed for the heat. The "very spicy" chicken was almost too picante for me to eat, but the absolutely amazing garlic sauce that was included cooled it to perfection and boosted the flavor to beyond comprehension.
We generally don't review chains or fast-food even in our widest travel, but Oporto made such a strong and positive impression that we had to sing some praises. After all, not only did we have the pleasure of super-spicy chicken, we had the fixin's too which were well worth a second and third trip back while we were in Sydney. That was mostly so I could try to figure out what they added to the rice to make its flavor so rich and savory.
You see, we don't have Oporto back home in the States, but now we're seriously...
Read moreI'm changing my review but still giving 1 star as the bondi burger still uses very spicy sauce originally but there scamming customers with extra surcharges not to mention there the most expensive fast food in most neighborhoods with a large meal going for $24 It's easier and cheaper to get real food at a restaurant that's fresh and has larger portions at $19 not overpriced like opporta as I used to eat daily as it was fresh and tasty that was 20yrs ago now soggy and tasteless as I hope they go bankrupt and bought by someone who appreciates Portuguese culture right now getting my fix at pattysmith and there so fresh and tasty thank u opporta for making me break up with u as frozen can't beat fresh and u make your prices the same as betties burgers and big daddy's is a laughing stock at your greed so never in my life will I eat your McDonald's style frozen chicken again bye forebears...
Read moreWhile the food is terrific quality as per Oportos standards, I really can’t give more than one star because of the incredibly confusing menu meal deals. It’s not just from day to day or even morning thru evening. You can buy a set priced meal and go back with a pal 20 minutes later and the staff say that they have no idea what you’re talking about. The same person that had served the same thing only a very short time before. Even if you show them an itemised receipt! It has happened to me and enough people I know to give them no more benefits of the doubts. Even if I’m hanging for the tasty food just on principle I eat elsewhere and it’s not as if I won’t come across another, better run Oporto in the near...
