A Hidden Gem of Authentic Japanese Hospitality

I visited Origami Café recently and had such a lovely experience that I had to share. This cozy little spot is run by a warm Japanese woman-dressed beautifully in a traditional kimono-and possibly her son, both of whom were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Their genuine smiles and attentive service truly made the meal memorable.

The café itself isn't flashy, but that only adds to its charm. What it might lack in décor, it more than makes up for with heart, soul, and delicious food. Every dish felt home-cooked and authentic, and the prices were surprisingly affordable- great value for money!

Do note: it's cash only, but there's an ATM nearby so it's not an issue.

Highly recommend if you're looking for a heartwarming, affordable, and truly Japanese experience right here in the city. Let's help keep places like...

Nothing tasted fresh. I could not eat most of it. Teriyaki chicken was heated in a toasted sandwich maker. It was dry, old and had no flavour or sauce, any sauce you see is the soya I added. Goza was heated in the microwave and had a weird taste. Tempura prawns were floury on the inside and the batter was soggy, defiantly not fresh. Undon was very salty and had too many noodles in it which were soggy, my son would not eat it. The only dish I could eat was the sushimi salmon but the pieces had skin on them and were cut very thick. I really question all the good reviews?? I would never recommend this place or eat here again!...

Origami Cafe is a great restaurant to grab a seat, unwind and enjoy the amazing food. This place has incredible selections of dishes and drinks to choose from, the workers/owners are friendly and the service is fantastic. I also feel that the cost for a meal is also very affordable in comparison to other cafes and restaurants nearby!

It’s in a great location but if feel that you could easily walk by it without a second glance, as it does not have significant advertisements or eye catching displays. I highly recommend grabbing a seat and getting a meal here or even...

Very cute little cafe that would be perfect to visit with a friend. The employees who work there were so polite and hospitable to us and the decor felt very homey. The food was also extremely affordable and delicious. Definitely recommend the matcha latte as well, it was perfect to have on a cold night. It was perfectly balanced, not sweet, not too bitter. If you're in Surry Hills and are in need of some simple Japanese cuisine, definitely stop by!
