Attending our final team dinner here brought on the familiar slight pain of either having to become a member or to get someone else to sign you in. Luckily, a few people from our group already had memberships, so it didn't take too long to get in, but given how infrequently I get to go out to dinner, it is a bit of a shame that access to the restaurant area isn't more straight forward.
As for the food, simply put, it was fantastic. While in the $$ price range, the massive plate of quality fresh, and well presented food was great. I ordered the lamb shoulder, and on first glance, was worried that I could not find a steak knife. But as I stuck my fork in to the mound of glistening meat, it simply pulled apart.
Where the lamb was juicy, well seasoned and generous, the veg was fresh, crisp (thankfully not overcooked) and perfectly matched to the lamb. I quickly ignored that the sweet potato chips got soaked in the sauce loosing all crispness, and simply dug in.
I also bought a wagyu beef burger for my son who made it promptly disappear, saying that "it was good", which from a teenager is a long and elaborate review, but the option to add $2 for bacon or for an egg, kinda felt like the $16 buger wasn't quite up to being a $20 one.
So while price was made into an issue, it didn't bite enough to take away from the...
Read moreThis club is ok but could improve. We’ve been members for years. Our friends and family use to visit twice a week for a meal but the last year or longer we’ve dramatically dropped our attendance. Mainly the bistro has dropped the ball. The menu was reduced which understandably as a business you need to look after yourself, but talk to the patrons and keep what was selling! All the good stuff was taken out… then occasionally the specials board put back what everyone was after but then they are always ‘sold out’. We’ve been dining elsewhere now days. Another small thing, why aren’t condiments like tomato sauce complementary? I’m sorry $2 for tomato sauce is ridiculous, it doesn’t even state it on the menu. Look at the other local clubs and pubs, it’s all complementary. Another suggestion for the meat raffle, offer more than 10 prizes on a Friday night or change it up by having the raffle on another quiet day to get more patrons through the door. Ps keep the bowling greens, they are the...
Read moreReading through past reviews I notice that it is apparently a 'new' menu - yet it is archaic. Vegetarian options were barely there, and the vegetable stack consisted of two 1990s style 'vege burgers' - i.e. mashed potato, peas and corn in a crumb - with two of the thinnest slivers of eggplant imaginable - where were the grilled vegetables that were described in the menu? The 'tahini sauce' mentioned in the menu was simply a dollop of raw tahini from the jar - which is not how it's meant to be eaten, it was disgusting. Nothing at all on the menu for vegan clientele. There were 4 'salad' options - which were simply 4 different cold meats, one option was with a packet of deep-fried noodles - not a lettuce leaf among any of them. No wonder there were so many empty tables - perhaps bringing the menu up to date might help - and actually serving what is described...
