Lovely ambiance at this hole in the wall bar. Easy to walk right past the hidden doors in the alleyway just behind spice alley in Sydney. We were greeted at the theatrical entrance within a minute and when the doors were thrown open, what a delight inside. Friendly and attentive service. The place is filled with cosy, squashy couches around driftwood style mini tables. The surrounds are filled with balinese inspired water fountain features, cushions and greenery and a big wood bar. The cocktails are theatrical and delicious. We tried the smoked old fashioned which was surprisingly smooth and presented under a smoky glass dome, and the pearl of the six armed goddesses which was fruity and went down very nicely.
Food wise, everything we tried on the menu is beautifully cooked and with quality ingredients. The food came really quickly and the staff were really attentive during service. We had the 600g T-Bone steak, served with 3 delicious sauces and full size pumpkin & cauliflower salad between 2 and the sizzling prawns. The couple next to us got the scotch fillet, calamari and the pork belly which looked to die for. I definitely recommend this place and will definitely come back. Every cocktail I saw looked amazing, there was quite a cocktail menu and a really good vibe.
Food is very reasonably priced. The cocktails are on the pricier end of the scale but a lot of time and love goes into making them spectacular.
I would suggest you book ahead so you arent...
Read moreWe visited saga bar on a Friday night hoping to enjoy some cocktails. Our booking was at 9:45 and we arrived on time and we’re informed that it was the last call for food so we should order immediately if we wanted food. We weren’t too concerned about this, as we had come to the bar for some drinks. We then proceeded to order a cocktail and bottle of wine. After being given our glasses and awaiting our drinks we were informed that they were not able to serve alcohol after 10pm, and so our wine glasses were taken away, even though we had placed our order before 10pm and it was a simply a bottle of wine that they would have had to place on our table. What was interesting was that tables around us were being served cocktails which they had ordered before 10pm, but we were not permitted to receive the bottle of wine we had ordered, even though it would have taken zero preparation, and could have been served to us easily within the 15 minutes before 10pm in which we ordered it. If you aren’t serving drinks and you aren’t serving food, then what are you serving? I thought this was supposed to be a bar? And why would you accept a booking at 9:45 if you knew you would not be able to serve us? And why were we only informed after we had ordered that they could not serve drinks after this time. Why was this disclaimer not clear in the booking. Overall disappointing. Would definitely not revisit and would not recommend. Some of the staff were...
Read moreA very quaint little place 8 minutes walk from central station. It might be a little hard to find this place because it’s like located in an alley behind an alley. The door has an unreadable type pf sign that says Saga Bar. And you have to press the intercom/ buzzer and wait for someone to come fetch you. It has a very shadowy and hush hush vibe. But I believe it’s done so on purpose as to not disturb the residents in the adjacent buildings. The bar itself on the ground floor has a jungle theme. It’s got plants everywhere and the tables are made up of tree parts. The table and chairs were too small and when the bar is full of people, you’re literally sitting beside strangers. However, the music wasn’t too loud and neither were the people. So me and my friend could hear other talk which was great. The food that we ordered (fries and spicy chicken wings were good. However, the schezuan calamari was too salty, deep fried, and dry. Drinks were good. We got a lavender husk and a saga colada, which were both very sweet and sugary. Oh, and we also ordered a chocolate volcano in dessert and it was AMAZING!!! There is also a function room upstairs which can fit about a 100 people, with a balcony, 2 rooms, kitchen hobs, etc. Other people in the bar ordered those fancy cocktails which looked really tempting. We spent $80 per person which is very expensive in my opinion. All in all, it was...
