As a domestic student, my time at UTS housing was a roller coaster ride and I have to say for the most part I was pretty lucky with flat mates, only having one bad flat mate. But you get that. The problem with my stay was the noise from refurbishment. During 2017 the whole of the Gumal building was being refurbished (and I have to say the fitting and quality of the refurbishments were shockingly bad, there were cupboard doors missing when I moved into the refurbished apartment and the worst decision was that I’m assuming to same money, they installed shower curtains instead of leaving or upgrading the doors, this left the whole bathroom wet after a shower. So the refurbishment was honestly bad in the end. So when it comes to social life, it was very disappointing, because obviously you come to housing for the social aspects most of the time. For a domestic student you’ll find it hard to fit in with a sea of international students, who usually prefer to hang out with other international students. You may have a few nights of socialises, but in the end you probably won’t make long term friends.
To finish I will give one positive, the price which for a four share in 2017 was $288 and in 2018 it went up to $304 or something similar to that. Even the new more expensive rent is cheap, especially in Sydney. Plus all the benefits that come with that like a gym membership and free organised events. So comparing this to a studio apartment some where not in the CBD it’s very good + no bills.
Anyway hope this helps people. As a summary I wouldn’t recommend this to...
Read moreAn unfortunate experience, I would not recommend this accomodation to any domestic student. Rooms are clinical and it is overall an extremely unsupportive environment. Some staff are often rude and unapproachable at the best of times.
Signing guests in and out continuously is a tedious task and the gates in the Yura building give the entire building a detention centre feeling.
It is an increasingly expensive option for what is offered. Essentially all you have is a room, it is not a very social environment for domestic students and you are forced to make your own connections as the "events" are minimal and often get cancelled.
I spent an entire year here and to be frank would never...
Read moreIf I could give 0 stars I would. Staff are rude and abuse their power. They dont care about student welfare or mental health and they have a terrible way of handling complaints made by students. Theyre money hungry and selfish. Wattle Lane has no ventilation in the room, no aircon and SO much boise, it truely effected my mental health but no one cares because theyre making a easy million a month from over charging students for a shoebox that becomes a sauna in the summer....
