Recently, I had a very disappointing dining experience at a hotpot buffet restaurant in Sydney. The quality of the food was unacceptable, and to make matters worse, the restaurant had raised its prices without any improvement in service.

Stale Ingredients, Poor Food Safety

As a buffet-style hotpot restaurant, fresh ingredients are essential. However, during my visit, I noticed several issues: • The crab sticks had a strong fishy smell, indicating possible improper storage or low-quality ingredients. • Vegetables were wilted, and some even had signs of rot, making them unappetizing and potentially unsafe.

The freshness of ingredients is not just about taste—it is a food safety issue. If the restaurant continues to use stale or poorly stored ingredients, customers could suffer from food poisoning or other health problems.

2.Price Increase Without Quality Improvement

In addition to the disappointing food quality, the restaurant has increased its prices but has not improved its offerings or service: • Ingredient quality has declined, and portion sizes seem smaller than before.

Price increases are understandable if they are accompanied by better quality or service. However, simply raising prices while lowering standards is unfair to customers.

Request for Improvement & Official Inspection

As a customer, I expect to receive fresh and safe food for a reasonable price. This restaurant, however, has failed to meet these basic expectations.

I urge the restaurant to: Ensure the freshness and safety of all ingredients to prevent health risks for customers. Make reasonable price adjustments while improving service and food quality. Follow food safety regulations.

If these issues persist, I will consider reporting this restaurant to the NSW Food Authority, Fair Trading NSW, or other relevant consumer protection agencies. I hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously and makes the necessary improvements, rather than prioritizing profit over customer...

Dear Soup Zen Management,

We have been loyal customers of Soup Zen for some time and have always enjoyed the excellent service from your staff. However, we feel it’s important to provide feedback regarding one male staff member, Xaviar (or at least we think that’s his name), who has been consistently unpleasant from the very first day he appeared in your restaurant up until tonight, and was the only male server on duty today.

Unlike all the other staff, who are friendly and professional, Xaviar’s attitude has been shockingly bad. He handles dishes roughly, remains silent, and wears a face that makes it feel as if we somehow owe him money. Honestly, it felt like he was the only “mouse in the soup,” ruining an otherwise perfect meal.

To be fair, he is consistent—just consistently unpleasant 😅. If he’s unhappy in this role, we’d suggest he either find a different job or, if he’s the boss, maybe we can cut him some slack. Otherwise, it’s hard to enjoy a meal with someone acting like we personally offended him by simply ordering food.

We hope you can address this issue, whether through training, reassignment, or other measures, so that all customers can enjoy the same great service we’ve come to expect.

Thank you for your attention. We look forward to visiting again under better...

My family and I went to SoupZenChatswood to celebrate my niece's recent graduation from university. The night was ruined by the rude and abrupt attitude displayed by both the male and female managers. Firstly the female manager came to our table and was rude and aggressive towards my wife and her sister in relation to a question regarding taking home any food we could not finish. She left us but only after saying the words " I'll remember you !! " towards my wife and her sister. Then a short time later after we had finished the male manager then came over and ridiculously accused us of taking left over prawns! He then said he wanted to search my brother in law's bag. When he did look there was nothing for him to see. They both said that we should be charged an extra $9 per person for the comparatively small amount of left over food ( including the prawns ), but we were able to eventually dissuade him from this action. Both these managers continued to discuss matters with my sister in law as we were leaving the restaurant. Their gross overreaction and rudeness in relation to a small amount of left over food was extreme considering we paid them over $ 400 for the night. Believe me we...

6/9/25 - 4 stars Been considering trying this place for a while now, but, wasn't sure which afterhours deal was worth pursuing. The all you can eat for $46 after 9pm and $30 after 10:30pm are some serious bargains, but, eating so much that late is a bit of a conundrum. Nevertheless, I'd heard good things so came to try. Definitely nicely decorated and service is fairly quick. The self service bar is very extensive and includes an interesting wintermelon and plum juice slushie. Multiple small little soup pots is definitely superior to a big one. Soups: S+, 8.5/10. Each quite fragrant, but, honestly they all kind of blurred together after a while. Meats: SS, 9/10. Wagyu was definitely tender and marbled. Got a bit much after a while, but, mostly a good thing. Extras: SS, 9/10. You can pretty much find everything you'd want in a hotpot dinner. Slushie: SS, 9/10. Very refreshing but plum one is a bit too sweet. Soft serve: B, 6/10. Not good, but, not really what you come here for Value: S, 8/10. $46 is quite good value and, if it was normal dining hours, easily would be higher rated.

Came here with friends on Easter Monday and the surcharge of our meal and service was 15%. I found it outrageously expensive if you visited the place on a holiday, especially if you’re not a big eater. The customer service was good as we were welcomed with warmth once we got there. I could see a wide variety of ingredients and ready-to-eat snacks on my way to my table. They all look fresh and pretty standard for an all-you-can-eat hotpot buffet. Food and drinks ordering can be done via the tab provided for the table and they were served quick. I had the tomato soup based and it didn’t disappoint. It didn’t take long to cook the ingredients in the soup as the server turned our stove to max heat, at which the server kindly let us know. Overall this was a good dining experience as the dining time was limited at two hours. Enjoyed the beef and I stuffed myself with them because of how delicious they were. Once we were finished with our meal we were served with ice cream, with was rather mediocre. They only had matcha, vanilla and mixes of matcha and vanilla flavor.

Beef was excellent. Dessert jelly was good. Seafood and fruits below par. Got a surprise fee of $40 for leftover. This shop has a leftover fee of $10/150g and does strictly applied including ordered but uncomsumed and untouched items. The quantity for different meats varies that beef was thin sliced but others are relatively much thicker. Therefore after beef we ordered trays of lamb and figured out the quantity is large. We raised it to the staff and asked if could return some uncomsumed items but were told a penalty is applied for $10/150g in return and not negotiable. Ends up 7 trays of meat returned and charged an additional fee of $40 for untouched items. I was expecting more explanation about the fee as well as this leftover police but all I got was a cold face asking to pay the penalty. So make sure you order carefully. A small amount to start could be smart. This is one of the few foodie options late at night (til 12:00pm) around the north shore. I hope the owner can lift the weight and pay more attention to the staff training and service.
