It has been a while since my last commute to Wynyard station and boy has it changed. Since it has been renovated, I've come across a couple of cafes and eateries which make it easier for you to be okay about missing your train. Tenkomori Ramen is located down the stairs in Brookfield Place.
I haven't been to Japan (yet!) but the decor makes you feel like you're there. The back wall is a mural of Tokyo at night and as you look up, you'll see some neon signs that you'd find on the streets of Tokyo too.
I was told they're known for their quick cooking & prep time and they were right! It's perfect for its location, considering a lot of city workers get out for a fast feed.
We ordered the 'Karaage Mayo Rice Bowl'. The fried chicken sat on top of boiled rice and was then topped off with a sweet sour sauce, mayonnaise, dried seaweed, roasted sesame and shallots. Simple, but delicious. I do love karaage chicken so that’s why I went for that option first, however they have 9 other kinds of rice bowls to choose from so I'd be keen to try them all!
Off the curry menu, we went for the 'Pork Katsu Curry'. It's such a hearty dish because of that Japanese curry. The pork was nice, crispy and cooked beautifully.
Now that ramen! As soon as I saw 'Black Garlic Ramen', I knew it was the one I wanted to order. It contained a beautiful piece of stewed pork loin, a seasoned boiled egg, bamboo shoots, seaweed, black garlic, fish cake and roasted sesame & shallot. We had the Tonkotsu broth and the flavour was perfect. I also love that they've got more than one serving size of ramen. I find myself struggling with the standard size so the fact that you can choose from 3 sizes (R, L & XL) is a...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Tenkomori Ramen House, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I stepped in, I was captivated by the inviting atmosphere and the aroma of freshly prepared dishes.
The ramen was nothing short of spectacular. The flavors were beautifully balanced, with rich, savory broth and perfectly cooked noodles that had just the right amount of chew. Each bite was a delightful journey of taste, leaving me craving more.
The tempo chicken was another highlight of the meal. It was incredibly soft and juicy, with a perfect crispy exterior that added a satisfying crunch. The tenderness of the chicken, combined with its savory seasoning, made it a standout dish.
The ordering process was both convenient and enjoyable. You start by picking your preferred size, then move down the line to choose from a variety of fresh fried foods and other additions. Once you make your selections, the staff promptly prepares your order and hands it to you at the end of the line. This system not only ensures your food is freshly made but also allows for a personalized dining experience.
Additionally, the availability of condiments like chili and soy sauce at the end of the line adds a nice touch, allowing you to customize the flavors to your liking.
In conclusion, Tenkomori Ramen House exceeded my expectations in every way. The food was delicious, the service was efficient, and the overall experience was delightful. I can’t find a single fault with it. If you’re a fan of ramen or just looking for a fantastic meal, Tenkomori Ramen House is...
Read moreThe tenkomori at regent place has very subpar “instant ramen” noodle w weak broth but I decided to try it here just in case it’s better. It’s not. Ordered the black garlic tonkotsu and I think they gave me the wrong order — literally no black garlic at all like in the menu photos. The broth was very oily to compensate for the watery / lack lustre flavour. Egg was ok. Given the price rises elsewhere it was slightly cheaper but not worth it.
The worst part though is the atmosphere. The have an extremely loud BONG!!! sound to announce that a new order is ready (in addition to a higher pitched bell). The guy in charge of this noise was either having a bad day or extremely impatient because he would button smash it so it was just ringing, extremely loudly, non stop if a customer didn’t immediately teleport to the window to fetch their meal. To make matters worse, the screen announcing he numbers isn’t super clear from all corners so I can understand why some people don’t know it’s their turn. The constant loud ringing meant I could barely talk to my colleague while dining. It was actually comically bad. The longest non-bong period was 9 seconds. NINE SECONDS.
This was all in addition to the loud high pitched bell as well. Just constant chaos and BONG!!!! Holy moley. Never ever EVER...
