I was playing the pokies with my friend who I hadn’t seen for 6 months and a “bar manager” with a mullet and a button up shirt came in and she told us to leave if we weren’t playing, which is fair enough. I moved seats put some money in the machine and a couple minutes later the security told me to get out because i was being a “smart arse” for spending more money at their establishment???? Mind you they forced me to leave my machine which still had $20 in it.

Which frankly makes no sense to me and seems pretty legally spurious, but as the security informed me their “boss” told them I was to be kicked out so there was nothing they could do about it. Honestly giving that much power to someone who feels the need to disproportionately respond against people who they dont like does bode well for the culture which this pub encourages.

Talking to the security guards outside after i was kicked out, this did not seem like an uncommon occurrence. When i saw the bar worker who had requested my removal from the venue i asked why she had me kicked out and her response was to threaten to unconsensually take my picture and send it to all the pubs on the king street strip.

The goal being to ban me from entering any of them, which was pretty hilarious as i very rarely drink alcohol and when i do its only in moderation. So her threats were met with laughter rather than fear which she clearly didn’t like.

And instead of just going inside and leaving me to go home she decided that telling me to go “back to where i came from” was an appropriate addition to her already unwarranted reaction to her perception of misbehaviour on my part.

I have had problems because of my accent before but they have never so blatant or unwarranted.

I will be requesting my Australian roommate to call tomorrow for a formal complaint, and i hope the upper management of this establishment takes this incident with the appropriate care and consideration which it requires. If not i will be appealing to the local magistrate who will hopefully make this “bar manager” think twice before their next crusade against an expat just trying to see...

I was there today around 10 p.m and I experienced the most disrespectful behaviour by the waitress( she had an Irish/Scottish accent) we ordered a barramundi with Asian slaw salad and when the she brought it down to us she walked past us and we said I think that’s ours and she turned around with attitude and said something I was shocked and just didn’t reply so she turned around and walked towards the bar area and starting mumbling things under her breath and when she reached the bar she asked the man who’s it is and he said it’s ours So she came towards us threw the food onto the table which left me shocked no folk nothing and she turned around and was leaving so I said excuseme to her and she turned around with this anger towards us and I said why do you have an attitude towards us before I can finish she started yelling at me there’s to table number I don’t know who’s food it is and it’s not my problem and I replied well I don’t work here I don’t know the table number aswell if anyone should it should be someone that works here not me. I again asked why do you have an attitude and than she mumbled some more things in an angry voice and pushed the food towards me and said I can’t deal with this and proceeded to leave. I felt extremely disrespected and just uncomfortable, we got up straight away the gentleman gave us a refund and we left!! I feel like she targeted me because either she was drunk or under some influence otherwise no staff member would came at you with food in there hands with such anger and attitude! This visit was terrible and I advise everyone to stay away!!! Also I would like an apology because nobody deserves this behaviour as a fellow human being!!!! I want answers to the reason why I was attacked like that!!! Check the camera footage aswell, the way I explained is exactly how...

I will firstly say, this is the first review I have ever done and it is nothing about the staff because their service was unreal. This place used to be great before management/ownership changed over. Today was the first time we have been back in 6 months and it was below average, I would not take anyone here. 6 months ago we stopped coming because we ordered the cauliflower steak (which we loved before the change over) and it came out with three florets...it was laughable. Today we thought we would give it another chance and it was if anything, stingy food that I would love if it was the only place in the town I lived in. Who ever took over this place needs to leave and bring back the old owners. If I could give less than 1 star I would. Thank god it was 2 for 1, but not a chance on any other night of the week would I come here. I feel sorry for the employees, because they were so good, it is clearly owned by someone that lives in a cave and has no idea about loyal customers or happiness... I hope they do not own...

Lovely pub on the corner in the heart of Newtown, with quiet upstairs restaurant area, which has a small terrace. Luckily went for a late lunch and the kitchen was still open (just made it). I ordered the market fish special (today was barramundi) and loaded mash potatoes; my friend ordered the lamb salad. Had to wait 30-40 minutes, when the kitchen was not busy at all was slightly annoying, I had to check they were making our order. Food was great when it came out (my fish was amazing but I didn't enjoy the loaded mashed potatoes - way too dry), prices were on the expensive side, but it comes with being in Newtown, I think. Friendly service. The restaurant area was quiet, which I like (but again, I went in at 14:00, it might be noisy at proper lunch time), was able to have a good conversation with my friend.

Had some food and drinks here last week - was very excited to see they had a Tofu Parmi. You could make the dish vegan, so I did, expecting there to be a vegan cheese replacement. However, it just came out without any cheese, which was a bit underwhelming - it was less a vegan option and more the same dish without cheese, but for the same price. It's a pity because the breaded tofu itself was delicious, and the idea of a tofu parmi is awesome. Overall, big props for attempting to make a really good meat-free pub dish, but sad to see them go almost all the way and then not bother to make a quality vegan version of the dish. Regardless, good to see a pub being creative with their food! Love the atmosphere and drinks too.

Had the $14.00 chicken snitzel with chips. Salad and sauce (I got Diane) from the Wednesday specials food menu + Carlton dry (absolute steal and worth every cent!). Upstairs outdoor eating area was nice and sunny, beer was cold and food was very good, fresh, tasty and filling for the price. Food came relatively quickly, smelt and tasted delicious and was well presented. Staff on duty were engaging, friendly, attentive and helpful when approachwd for food/drink orders,.as was the staff member at the main bar downstairs. Close to public transport (bus stops are near by , parking may be limited) and centrally located in vibrant Newtown with a variety of independent, local shops nearby. Recommend and well worth the visit.
