We are long-standing patrons of The Mean Fiddler, having supported the venue since it opened in the 1990s. Over the past 30 years, we have chosen the establishment to celebrate countless birthdays, anniversaries, christenings, and even wakes. Our loyalty and continued patronage speak for themselves.
On Saturday night, a group of 16 of us gathered at The Fiddler once again to celebrate a birthday. We had a table booked for 6:30 PM, and throughout the evening we enjoyed food, drinks, and made use of the gaming facilities. However, at 11:00 PM, we were abruptly asked to leave by security staff—without any explanation.
When we asked why we were being removed, we received no clear response. When we questioned whether this decision was based on our age—so that younger patrons could be admitted— the staff did not deny it. This led us to believe that age discrimination played a role in the decision to evict us, despite the fact that we were well-behaved, respectful, and actively contributing to your business.
The treatment we received was deeply disappointing and, quite frankly, disrespectful to loyal customers. Our group had invested in the evening not only emotionally but financially. Some guests had booked accommodation nearby specifically to attend the event. We incurred unnecessary costs in transportation after being forced to relocate to another venue with no valid reason provided.
After three decades of loyalty, we feel this situation has shown a complete disregard for long-term customers. As a result, they have lost the support of 16 middle-aged patrons who have, until now, consistently chosen your venue over others.
While I'm here....
Some time ago, a close friend of mine had her drink spiked while at the venue. She became incapacitated and unable to move, and it was only thanks to the care of other female patrons in the bathroom—complete strangers—that she received any assistance. When security staff were called, instead of seeking out her friends or ensuring her safety, they physically lifted her and placed her into a taxi without identifying who she was with or notifying anyone from her group.
To make matters worse, they failed to give the taxi driver any context or instructions. The driver initially refused to take her, believing she was simply intoxicated. She was, in fact, drugged—alone and vulnerable. Had the driver acted maliciously or left her outside her home (as she was unable to walk), the consequences could have been devastating.
This kind of neglect demonstrates a complete failure in their duty of care. Their team showed zero consideration for her safety or for what might happen once she left your premises in such a vulnerable state. That is not responsible service of alcohol, nor is it even a basic level of human decency.
Additionally, there have been repeated incidents where women who report sexual harassment to their security staff are the ones removed from the venue, while the offending men are allowed to remain. This is completely unacceptable and sends a dangerous message about whose safety matters at your establishment.
Given these experiences—both past and recent—I will never return to The Fiddler. They have consistently failed to protect their patrons, failed to act responsibly, and failed to take seriously the very real risks women face when they are under their roof. It is not only disappointing, it is disgraceful.
Not a safe place...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of enjoying a leisurely lunch at The Fiddler, and the overall experience left a positive impression. This restaurant, nestled in Rouse Hill, offers a serene atmosphere, spacious seating, and a culinary journey that makes it a noteworthy spot for midday indulgence.
Food (4/5): The culinary offerings at The Fiddler shine with a diverse and well-executed menu. Although slightly on the expensive side, the dishes were beautifully presented and boasted a delightful combination of flavors. From appetizers to the main course, each dish showcased the chef's skill and commitment to quality ingredients. The absence of music allowed for a more intimate appreciation of the food, and the lunch menu presented a variety of options that catered to different preferences. While the pricing might be a consideration, the overall quality of the food justifies the cost for those seeking a more refined dining experience.
Service (5/5): The standout feature of my visit to The Fiddler was the exceptional service. The staff members were attentive and accommodating, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable dining experience. From the moment I stepped through the door, they were quick to assist and provided helpful recommendations. The attentive service, combined with a lack of crowding during lunch hours, created an atmosphere of relaxation and made for a genuinely enjoyable meal.
Atmosphere (4/5): Contrary to my previous review, the lunchtime experience at The Fiddler offered a more spacious and relaxed setting. The absence of music allowed for easy conversation, making it an ideal spot for a quiet lunch meeting or a laid-back meal with friends. The decor, though not overly elaborate, exuded a subtle charm that complemented the overall tranquil ambiance. The spacious seating arrangement contributed to a comfortable and uncrowded atmosphere, allowing guests to enjoy their meals without feeling rushed.
The Fiddler provides a tranquil lunch experience, featuring a well-curated menu, attentive service, and a serene atmosphere. The lack of music during lunch hours, coupled with the spacious seating arrangement, creates an environment conducive to relaxed conversation and enjoyment of the culinary offerings. While the pricing may be on the higher side, the quality of the food and the overall dining experience make The Fiddler a recommended choice for those seeking a peaceful and refined...
Read moreMy partner Jasmine, booked for 15 pax today (Sunday at 3pm). Really, really disappointed and embarrassed that we took our guests there. We weren’t going to comment publicly but we copped too much unfortunately and our guests actually commented on things when leaving. It was for my sons 2nd birthday. We booked a week or more in advance in the playground area. We got in there and it was packed and we couldn’t see a table in sight. We found a staff member who then had to contact several staff members to see what was going on and where we were seated. I then get this lady telling me our table is booked at the top of the railings which has barely any pram access but whatever we said we will manage but as I looked there was a whole party still there with a billion glasses/dirty plates. This staff member told me to tell my guests to wait outside the whole pub. Mind you we all have 2 kids each family, it was cold and already 3:10 at this point. Anyway, they cleaned up, we awkwardly told our guests to hold on and sat. They turned the tables back around and were going to have 15 guests sit on 3 seperate tables? So we wouldn’t be able to share food, talk, socialise nothing. I kindly asked if we could turn the tables back the other way the other party had them so we could include everyone, the staff mem I was speaking to asked one of the male staff to do that and he said “but why”. I advised him of the reason also and got multiple eye rolls. Then 10min into sitting down and finally (I thought) getting over all the hurdles a staff member comes up and places the next bookings signs on our table in between our $300 worth of food, drinks and in front of people that were talking. I can’t fault the food (was the reason we chose this place and only ever dined here once before just us two). Then at 4:40pm interrupted again and told we have to leave soon to make room for the next booking. I explained this whole ordeal to that lady and she advised she wasn’t told about any of this! She did politely say she would move the other party and I appreciate that immensely. However, it’s embarrassing and just overall a really horrible experience. I truly don’t reccomend anyone to hold a child’s birthday there even near the...
