I’ve been a regular at this venue on Friday nights, but unfortunately, the experience has been declining. Last night, there were three new staff members behind the bar who seemed to have little to no training. A customer next to me had to show two staff members how to properly pour a beer because it was all foam, and I had to guide another on how to pour a shot—unfortunately, most of it ended up on the table.
The bar service was a mess—staff were running out of drinks, stressing about where to find replacements, then just giving up and serving half shots. And the cocktails weren’t even real cocktails! I’d be spewing too if I got a “Cosmopolitan” that looked like a vodka soda with a hint of pink in a short glass. That’s just disappointing.
The staff also struggled with the register, frequently making errors. One customer ended up with a drinks tab accidentally charged to her credit card. The team appeared quite young, possibly inexperienced, and lacked guidance. Drink orders were taking an unusually long time—our group ordered four simple drinks and waited 20 minutes, even though the bar wasn’t busy at the time. When it did get busier, staff weren’t proactively taking orders. It wasn’t clear if there was a manager overseeing operations, as things seemed quite unorganized.
The food was standard pub fare, but a few issues stood out. Our group ordered six entrées, but there were no plates provided—we had to use napkins instead. There were also no forks or extra napkins available.
The facilities were disappointing as well. The men’s restroom downstairs had no locks, water all over the floor from a leaking toilet, and a strong odor of urine. The upstairs restroom was slightly better, but one tap was constantly running.
I’m not sure if there’s been a change in management, but the overall experience has definitely declined. Unfortunately, based on this visit, I’d be hesitant to return. Hopefully, some training and improvements can be made to bring the venue back to its...
Read moreOxford Hotel, is a great pub for a good afternoon after a long shift with some friends. EWe’ve been going for quite some time now. Mainly to enjoy ourselves with drinks and playing rounds of pool. We’ve also have eaten at this pub some mains but mainly snacks and the one thing that me and my friends absolutely could indulge in and be satisfied was what use to be the thick juicy pineapple cut squid/calamari.
Recently we went a couple days ago and all I craved and my gf craved was the squid. We ordered the squid but had noticed that I had spent $21 for a starter, was beyond me in itself. I never mind with pricing but it’s got to satisfy my taste buds. Without hesitation assuming I was going to get the calamari how we’ve always had it. It came out in a tiny bowl and I noticed it was cute differently, they had obviously used baby squid for this dish because it’s a very common starter dish in most places and they all use small baby squid. I probably got 6 tiny bite pieces out of it and my gf 3. I was very unsatisfied with how little we got and for the price.
The staff and manager all handled it well and were very empathetic and had informed me that the menu had changed. So thank you to the staff/manager for dealing with me.
I know that this one dish was all I’m complaining about, but when you have a crave….. you would expect to get what you think you would be paying for.
Bring back the thick pineapple cut squid back...
Read moreA great spacious pub with a nice beer garden, delicious food and a cool balcony but disorganization with meals was a notable hiccup.
A friend and I came here on a Friday evening for a few drinks and dinner after work. The beer garden was great, with plenty of space to sit, and there were some with dogs (pet friendly).
There's a lot of space inside this place, and the vibe feels cozy and inviting, in this reviewer's opinion.
How was the food? I ordered a parmagiana with chips and a coleslaw salad. I can attest to this being one of the tastiest meals I've had in some time (the coleslaw was delicious)! The price was respectable also.
The major drawback to our experience was the mixing up of the order for my friend. He ordered a burger, which did not arrive at the same time as my dish. After close to 30min, we found out they'd forgotten it, and also mixed it up a second time by bringing him the wrong meal after we reminded them. They seemed confused. Once the burger arrived, it didn't appear to match the quality of my meal, and I would've been left hungry based on the portion size. My recommendation? Stick to the parmi until they sort out their burgers.
Would consider returning if I'm in the area, but the staff would do well to tighten up their...
