In Sydney, Mexican is the new black. Sombrero-themed ventures are opening up quicker than car spots fill up in Bondi on those, now rare, summer days. Previously it has been solely restaurants but newcomer on the scene, Tioās Cerveceria, has thrown a bar into the mix.
You cannot argue with a $5 house beer especially when itās sexed-up with salt and lime. You can however argue with a $9 Pacifico but the free spicy popcorn will usually quell any squabbles. The drinks are selected (and prepared) with care and skill - you donāt need to worry on that front.
The decor embraces a menagerie of knick knacks relating to Mexico - including a bunch of plaster dogs whose relevance I struggled with - put together in such a way to be curious rather than kitsch. The ātoiletos"-type wording throughout is hopefully ironic, and stuff.
The bar staff are the owners (formerly of Shady Pines Saloon) and are friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Itās a cosy, little nook in the āburbs of Surry Hills and a perfect pit stop for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI visited tios in July last year while on holiday from the Gold Coast. I have to say I literally think about this place at least once a day no joke. The best margaritas I have ever had in my life. The watermelon margarita is the stuff of my dreams and I could go into depression thinking about how far away I live from tios and the fact Iām one margarita stamp away from a free one.
But I definitely will be back, and half the reason for my next trip to Sydney will be to go here again.
Unfortunately we never got to try the food as we came on a day were the staff had explained they were really understaffed due to covid for food.
But honestly it was of no issue to us, we ordered Uber eats grilld and enjoyed the best cocktails we had both ever had.
I recommend tios to everyone I know going to Sydney and I count the days til my next visit. Please...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreArrived there today at 6:45pm with 2 friends. Were told 30-90 min wait time and that they are going to SMS us once a table becomes available. We had 2-3 drinks at the pub next door and after another hour we asked again if they have a free table. Geoff told us not yet and that they will text us shortly. Now it's midnight and they still haven't contacted us. Don't recommend to go here if you actually want to eat food and spend money. Plenty of MUCH better restaurants around such as the DOC pizza place. Best Italian in town!! Don't go to Tia's Cerverceria! They missed out on $600-700 on us alone but it seems they don't care about money and don't need customer's. We were told that they are booked out 3 weeks in advance and that for below average food. Give it to those places in need instead...
