Second time visiting Wafu Kitchen and very disappointed with the service. Ordered a light dinner of sushi and sashimi and completely disappointed by the quality of the sushi. The sushi rice wasn’t fresh. Spoke to the waitress but all she said was sorry and explained the sushi was made at noon thus it’s hardened, which I don’t think helps with the situation! I had to express that I wasn’t happy with the quality of the food for her to say she’d speak to the chef. They spoke but no follow up from anyone, she just went back to her job. I waited 10 mins before asking to speak to the chef, who gave the same explanation that the sushi was made at lunch time - still not helping with the situation! His only solution was that they’re planning to offer fresh sushi on the menu and that I could order that in future. I ended up asking for a refund, which they agreed. Disappointingly lack of service and solution mindset. I had their bento box last time, and to be fair, it’s of decent quality. I would just recommend customers to order from their dinner menu and avoid anything that is in their display cabinet, since the chef already admitted that they had been sitting there for over 6 hours.

Wafu Kitchen is like a slice of Japan in Alexandria. The food here is exceptional in quality and presentation. Meals are served in Japanese ceramic bowls and traditional bento boxes and on wooden blocks. Sustainability is deeply valued and Wafu Kitchen doesn’t use cheap, disposable plastic trays and cutlery. Yukako has a strong emphasis on using the best quality ingredients and you can taste it in the food which is made fresh upon ordering. We have been to Wafu Kitchen a few times now and on each occasion the food and service have been consistently excellent. The menu continues to evolve and expand based on customer feedback. Highly recommend the crispy panko chicken curry, seafood chirashi bowls, chicken ramen, salmon nigiri and mixed sashimi platter. The desserts are also very traditional and not overly sweet. The two soy puddings - black sesame and matcha - are to die for, and were the perfect way to end our meal. I highly recommend Wafu Kitchen if you are looking for an authentic Japanese dining experience.

Everything is Gluten and Lactose free! This is truly authentic Japanese cuisine where everything is made from scratch, miso soup included! I wouldn’t be surprised if they made own koji culture for the soy paste as well. We got two ramens and katsu chicken. Ramen was rich in flavour, with little spice to the seaweed, and thick rice noodles, with lots of ingredients in the broth - perfect for the winter! Katsu chicken was perfect. It has a crispy crumb outside, followed by chewy and soft chicken skin after and complimented by the meat! The meat was fully cooked but the skin was thick and soft, the exact consistency as it should be. The katsu sauce was home made! Not the commercial version. The set came with sashimi and two side salads and rice. Everything was nicely balanced and complimented each ingredient in a unique way! I’d recommend to visit this place even if you are not celiac, just for the dedication of this place to the traditional Japanese food flavours. #glutenfree #lactosefree

This restaurant is a REVELATION. For a gf person, it’s like a dream to have a completely gf Japanese restaurant since most Japanese places have only a handful of things they can accommodate. We got the Tokyo ramen, udon with tempura prawn, sushi, and some sides. The highlight was definitely the udon and ramen. They make fresh noodles that have a great chewy texture (unlike most ramen places where they just get whatever ready made gf noodles they can find). Also, the broth was sooooo good, rivalling any great ramen restaurants (maybe even better). The sushi selection is not huge, but the ones they have are really fresh with a great rice base. I’m picky about sushi, I need the rice to have exactly the right consistency and seasoning and they hit the spot. The sides were ok- I had the wakame salad which was a bit bland in the beginning, but only to find that the sauce was all on the bottom of the bowl. The fermented cabbage was a bit bland. The pudding dessert was really unique, with a fragrant blend of matcha and mulberry. All in all, I was extremely happy to have found this place! Will...
