[Edited to add. We returned this week and luckily, a new menu had just been introduced. The food was awesome, so much better than the previous menu. Thai and Vietnamese inspired food that was fresh, full of flavour, filling and delicious! Added to this, we met James (gentleman who replied to my review) and the lovely lass working the bar. This time around, the service was just amazing! I can't thank James enough for being so kind and respectful in every way. His reply to my initial 1 star review and our subsequent emails showed skills and a level of maturity a lot of managers don't have. For this, my guests and I thank him for making this experience at Yulli's Brews just so wonderful and memorable.
Having said all that, the initial review for that experience still stands. So, given one really bad experience and one really good one, I think the scale settles at 3 stars. Of course, James' legendary response to my complaint and the lovely service we got from everyone, has to push it up one more star.
Thank you everyone. Wishing you all the very best and see you soon.]
I've been coming here for years and I've always found the food fresh, delicious and interesting but sadly, this has changed. We ordered the banquet/ buffet menu. $40 per person. We thought it would be good value, or at least their best options but it was neither. The food was actually tasteless. Tiny portions (the falafel on lettuce was a joke, sized for a hamster), the pasta was overcooked and for me, inedible and the deep fried food was borderline burned. The eggplant had no flavour at all and was also tiny. We went looking for salt and pepper shakers and could find none. We asked the bartender and were given a pepper grinder which was nearly empty. The donut was dry and awful too. The only good thing was the salad, which was fresh but still a small portion. The place was empty too, so I'd imagine the person preparing the food had some time to get it right but it all just felt pre-prepared, defrosted and re-heated. It didn't help that everything was put on our table within about 20 minutes. Which of course meant that everything went cold.
Also, the service was lazy and disinterested. If people want to sit upstairs, could you please just supply some jugs of water and empty glasses for a bit of convenience? How about QR menus?
I couldn't help but compare Yulli's $40 menu to Vandal's $40 menu and Vandal wins by a country mile! Fresher, larger portions, consistent and served hot! I'm sad that we had an awful experience for my friends b'day and I'm also sad that I recommended the...
Read moreVery disappointed with my first visit to Yulli's Brews. A friend was launching his album there on Friday night and I booked a table weeks in advance knowing it would be a sell out event. I made plans with a group to enjoy dinner and a show together. Even though a staff member called me via phone to confirm on the day, the first in our party to arrive was told there was no table. Confused she was in the wrong place, she left. I was rudely greeted my a stern bouncer upon arrival which was not a nice way to start. I told him what had happened and although he didn't want to listen to me he got the manager. She explained no one had been turned away and asked for the name my booking was under. She assured me that our booking for a TABLE of 6 was on the list. 'Phew!' I thought. 'Must just be a misunderstanding!' But 2 seconds later, she says 'There are no tables, you can go in and find a spot'. Ummm, I have emailed and called many times about this night and at all times have been told I've booked a TABLE for 6 people. The manager said I could try and find a table upstairs, but there are no guarantees, what I had booked was space for 6 people to be in the venue, but not a table! I explained how confusing this was to me and the folks in my party, who wanted to sit down and have dinner. She told me things must have changed since I made my booking. But that didn't make sense as a gentleman had called that day to confirm my TABLE of 6. I indicated I was frustrated and disappointed, and walked upstairs to see what I could find. I found a hot noisy area filled with people - sitting at TABLES with names and times written on them as if bookings had been made! So where was my booking??? I emailed to reserve it on the 20 March!!! There were folks in my party who needed seating and couldn't stand for hours waiting for the show to start. Realising it wasn't possible to sit and have a meal we all left to eat elsewhere. We didn't spend a dime in that unpleasant place and we won't be back. Most of all we are so sad we missed our friends album launch. What a shambles. Please don't use the word table when taking bookings in future, please make your customers aware there are no table bookings if that is the case, and they are just RSVPing for...
Read moreI came here ready to love it. A brewery 20mins walk from where I live! What's not to love? Unfortunately my experience was spoilt by 3 things: Got ripped off in purchasing a jug of IPA Lady behind the bar was rude Didn't get aioli with fries.. only realized when we were most of the way through
How did I get ripped off in purchasing the jug you ask? Well.. a schooner of IPA is $9. A schooner is 425mL. $9/425 = 2.1c/mL A jug of IPA is $24. The jug we got was filled just above the 1L mark, lets say it had 1050mL. $24/1050 = 2.3c/mL
Sure, I only paid around $2.10 extra for the jug than if I was to buy the equivalent amount of beer in schooner form, but that's not the point. You're meant to be selling jugs at a slightly lower rate than a schooner. How can a business justify selling more at a higher rate? Please review your pricing or train your staff on how far up to pour the beer in the jug! Also, FYI to management, when we asked the lady behind the bar how many schooners we get in the jug, she initially said 4! When we looked shocked so retracted and said 3. I'd say we...
