Yesterday I went to buy Barramundi. I wanted 2kgs (1kg is 21.99 which is too expensive for poor quality fish. I have a background as a chef ) give or take. I Specifically asked for no head no tail and for it to be butterfly cut. And went and came back after 10 minutes or so. I asked the employee who was diffrent then the person who took my order. she proceeded to look at the bags of fish behind her, she did not ask for my receipt so, she found a bag looked into it and gave it to me. I took it home to find only 1kg of fish for two barramundi with head and tail!! I paid $48.99 for what i believed was one fish that was 2kgs! Give or take. I called when i found out that same day. Someone picked up and told me they were closed and for me to come the next day. I went today with proof of purchase and the two fish they gave me. The person that took my order and the person that gave me my order were both there! I told them what happened they proceeded to shift the blame on to me! The one that took my order would not apologise for their mistake she proceeded to gaslight me into believing that I was the problem which is bad customer service and ill treatment of another person. The women that gave me my order then weighed the fish and it came out to 1kg! Like a said before. And she then spoke to the person that took my order that it was 1kg. she then still blamed me saying that i asked for two fish which is not correct even if true why did i pay double. I wanted a refund they would not allow it they told me to make an exchange, i said fine she then proceeded to pick any fish! I told her i would pick. The fish all looked bad! Not fresh from my experience. She gave me a fish that i choose that came to a total of $41 give or take, she did not give me a ticket. Once they cleaned the fish i asked for a bag she told me that would be 20c when i had 8 dollors to spear with them. She did not give me the $8 back or the bag.

Worst customer service and the worst fish quality I have ever seen in my 20+ years as a professional chef. Please do yourself a favour and never come here for your known health.

I would recommend Fairfield fish market...

After repeated visits to ZAG Seafood in Merrylands, we have developed suspicions of questionable acts in play. The first few times my mum purchased squid here and she asked for it to be cleaned, it would always be bought to the 'back' and the cost of the squid seemed more expensive than advertised (heavier than it actually was).

So my mum went 2 more times and not get it cleaned so it does not get bought to the 'back'. In these 2 instances, we have found multiple smaller fish within the squid itself as seen in the image attached. The first time we thought it may have just been a coincidence to have fish left inside as squid do eat small fish. However, we believe that the fish may have been deliberately put inside it to increase the weight and thereby increasing the cost. (cost of squid is far higher than the fish).

Even when it is cleaned and cut - with the fish removed, customers like my mother are paying for squid that is heavier as it already has the fish already inside. (customers pay for the squid then you can request for the clean). We believe the fish is in certain squid already and depending on the vulnerability of the customer, they are given these types of squid. Or alternatively, they are only placed in the larger squid as the fish can be more easily placed inside. When they take it to the 'back', that is when the fish is removed although customers have already fronted the cost.

If my elderly mother is being subject to this, I imagine other customers may also be experiencing this. I hope this...

Dear the owner of Zag Seafood,

I walked in your Seafood shop oday and bought 2 snappers at 1.50pm. I was standing there, waiting for them to clean the fish up until 2.05pm. Then one of the stuff member, I didn't get her name (she was a fat lady who wearing glasses, dark hair with dark purple heavily eyes makeup) put the bag on the counter near where I was standing. So I asked if that was mine. She was rude to me said NO DID I GIVE THAT TO YOU??? I asked if she could check the order for me because I've been waiting for 15 mins. And the other stuff, Asian lady said to wait you are number 2, they havn't cleaned them yet. So I asked if I could get a refund because my lunch break is finished. The fat lady then screamed NO WE DON"T GIVE REFUND. I said please my lunch break has ran out. Normally the service is very fast and polite. That's why I always come back to shop with you everytime at my lunch break. But today, this service was unacceptable. The fat lady was too rude. I would never want to come back again. I am your regular customer and I don't deserve to get treated...

ZAG Seafood Merrylands never disappoints whether it’s fresh seafood or cooked seafood you will be glad you shopped here. The seafood is always fresh and tasty and the staff are always happy to help and if your not sure what seafood you want they will make recommendations for you. You can eat in or takeaway. I always grab my seafood here for Christmas with the convenience of delivery I can skip the queues at the shop and have it dropped of straight to my door. I always get so many compliments from family and friends on the fresh delicious seafood. Couldn’t get it any fresher even if I went out and caught it myself…A must to try 🎣
