This is my first time going to a Thai restaurant since moving to Townsville 2 years now my first impression when walking in had an off old oil smell to the shop and looks a little run down but sometimes you can get the best tasting food so I decided to stay sat near the front counter where I had placed my wallet and keys on the table when I was leaving to pick them up they were wet so obviously, the tables weren’t cleaned or dry. I decided to order anyway and paid first and sat down entree was 4 x vegetable puffs $15.00. I started eating one puff and it was like cold inside peas and potatoes I thought maybe it’s okay it’s probably just a small part of it but as I kept eating it and it was throughout the vege puff and I called the staff to let her know it’s still cold inside and she apologised and said I’ll give it to you for free she returned the vege puffs to the kitchen and then the main meal came out to my table Chicken cashews with white rice $25.00 the plate had a crack chip in the crockery main plate so I kept the cashew chicken in the bowl. I tried explaining to the staff that I had already paid for my food to the gentleman but her lack of understanding English was limited- not that I wanted it for free I just wanted the experience eating Thai food to satisfy my craving that I had, I asked if they make Thai tea but they don’t make it either 😞. Half way through my main meal the vegetables puffs returned to my table so I thought I’ll try a vegetable puff again and it was still cold inside and darker on the outside you an tell it was re- cooked which was fine, during that time I just got so thirsty I couldn’t stop drinking water 🤷🏼♀️ I drank a lot of water which filled me up I didn’t really want to eat anymore food, I just couldn’t eat it. Usually I can finish my meal because I love Thai food so much but I just couldn’t finish eating it from the taste. Female staff when walking by asked me how is it? I didn’t have the heart to tell her again it’s cold inside and the lack of communication for her to understand I just left it. I asked to get take away containers as I didn’t stay because lack of appetite the taste with the food, cleanliness and the smell so I decided to take the rest of it home. Before leaving because of the miss understanding about payment, I felt I needed to approach the counter to inform the female staff to confirm that I can leave so she doesn’t think I didn’t pay so I can leave and NO mentioning about refund, NOT that I was expecting it either. But you shouldn’t say and not deliver. I had waited Politely waiting for a good while standing at the counter until I got seen it was just getting frustrating by this time. When I got home I can smell that old oil on my body needed shower. My stomach started to play up bloating and the next day it did the same after eating that food I wanted to be sick I wasn’t feeling well with old oil. I am very very sorry and sad to tell you but I will NOT be return to your restaurant. I understand business are doing it tuff but everybody is being effected in some way or another, I also like to treat myself and go out to have nice food and to have that experience as I had a full-on day at my work on Friday. I didn’t feel like cooking for myself and wanted to have early night. I was very disappointed ☹️. I do not understand how 4.7 star is granted. Sorry but that was...

There aren't enough words to truly encapsulate the delightful experience that is Chraw Thai Ban restaurant. Not only is it a family-friendly destination that offers the convenience of BYO, Dine-in, and Takeaway options, but it also provides an efficient delivery service that ensures the deliciousness of Thai cuisine can be savored in the comfort of your own home.
From the moment I walked into the restaurant, I was greeted by a warm and welcoming atmosphere that immediately created a sense of comfort and relaxation. The decor, subtly reminiscent of the lush landscapes and vibrant markets of Thailand, paired with soft, traditional music, created an enchanting ambiance which only enhanced the overall dining experience.
The Chraw Thai Ban’s service is truly exceptional. Staff members are not only attentive and friendly, but also have a deep understanding of their menu and are more than willing to make recommendations or explain the unique flavors and ingredients of each dish. This level of customer service, where guests are treated as friends, created a personal and engaging experience that sets Chraw Thai Ban apart.
But the true star of the experience, of course, is the food. Every dish I tasted was an explosion of flavors, perfectly balanced to bring out the unique characteristics of Thai cuisine. From the spicy kick of the Tom Yum Soup to the sweet and savory notes of the Pad Thai, each bite was a testament to the culinary skills of the chefs. The food was thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, and most importantly, absolutely delicious.
In terms of value for money, Chraw Thai Ban excels. The portion sizes are generous, and the prices are very reasonable, especially considering the high quality and authenticity of the food.
The fact that the restaurant is BYO is another advantage. Being able to bring your own wine or beer allows you to perfectly match your drink with the spicy, sour, sweet, and salty flavors of Thai cuisine, further enhancing your dining experience.
In conclusion, my visit to Chraw Thai Ban was a memorable one. High-quality food, commendable service, and a relaxed atmosphere make it a top contender in the local culinary scene. Whether you're looking for a place to have a quiet dinner or to celebrate a special occasion, Chraw Thai Ban is a great choice. I can't wait to return and explore more...

The menu offers a wide range of traditional Thai dishes, but the highlights are definitely their fried chicken, papaya salad, and Isaan-style dishes.
The fried chicken is crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, with just the right amount of seasoning to bring out the flavors. Their papaya salad (som tam) is a perfect balance of spicy, sour, salty, and sweet, with fresh ingredients that make every bite refreshing. If you're a fan of Isaan cuisine, you’ll love their selection, which includes grilled meats, spicy dips, and sticky rice—just like you’d find in northeastern Thailand.
However, be prepared for a wait if the restaurant is busy, as their popularity means they often have a full house.
