Restaurants in the COVID era have a tough job with government restrictions on distancing and requiring people to sign in. I really feel for people who are providing this service, and I am loathe to give out a 1 star review, but I don't feel I can do any differently.

This restaurant occupies a very large space, with high ceilings. The air-conditioning is excellent in this hot weather and the view of the water is good. The water in the bottles is cold, and the chairs are comfortable. The plates are beautiful and ornate. There are prints of various arabic looking scenes on the walls, and the staff who I spoke to were polite and courteous. All these positive things are let down by the fact that the food and the wait for the food were completely unacceptable.

I include the image of the two items that we ordered: Vegetable tajin (vegan) Cous-cous with vegetables (vegan)

We actually ordered three dishes, but they neglected to bring one out, and when we finally got (~40 minutes after we ordered) the above dishes we decided not to remind them that we had ordered an entree as well.

Each plate was around $24. So, for $24, I expect that the food is either great or plentiful, and I could have forgiven the couscous, if it was not for the tajin, which came as shown in the photo, with a few pieces of untoasted brown bread. The vegetables in both dishes were roughly the same, and were stewed with a bland sauce that did not have any of the traditional morrocan spices. I'm not sure why it was so bland or why the vegetables were so plain.

At the end of the meal, I spoke to the chef, and I explained my concern that the quantities and flavours were not appropriate for the price, and he said that the issue was that we ordered vegan dishes, and that vegans were more health conscious and didn't want large servings, and he could make larger more generous servings, so at least I understand the rationale even if it is completely inappropriate. I explained that just because I don't eat meat and animal products, doesn't mean I don't want to eat at all. Overall, based on the other reviews that are here, I can see that a lot of people were impressed by the food, but I can also see a few people who are commenting on the serving sizes being incorrect.

The chef (Ali) did say that I should come back and he would make sure that we were happy with our meal the next time. To be honest, there are lots of restaurants in Perth and the surrounding areas that will get it right the first time, so I am not sure I will take him up on his offer. My suggestion is that if you have issue with the meal, to speak to the staff and politely tell them your concern. I hope they improve, and I will update my review if I come back a second time.

To the staff at this restaurant, if you should read this, I hope you take this feedback constructively, as I think you've got such potential, and if you could actually cook authentic vegan Moroccan food you would do really well, as you have Yahava right next door, and I know that the restaurant that used to occupy this space was...

A nice Moroccan restaurant set in Swan Valley overlooking the Great Yahava koffee ponds.

Our family have been wanting to try this restaurant and only managed to have the time to visit on a Friday night. The restaurant just started to open for dinner service at 5.30pm, so it is nice and peaceful with a beautiful view overlooking the lake.

For main course, we ordered the lamb tagine, chicken tagine, chicken skewers with chips (for our son) and for dessert we ordered the Basbousa (semolina cake with rose syrup), Moroccan filo (pastry topped with cream and pistachio) and Crème Brule.

The lamb and chicken tagine was tender and tasty, seasoned with mild Moroccan spices. It comes with 2 mini French baguette as dinner rolls, I was actually expecting some exotic “Khobz” Moroccan flat bread.

The chicken skewers comes with two chicken skewers, which we find quite small in portion, the chicken breast is slightly dry and could use with some type of sauces and salad on the side.

The dessert was nice, the Morrocan filo pastry was the winner, interesting crunch of the pastry with cream and pistachio nuts.

Overall it was a nice family dinner, the menu selection was limited, food was good and the restaurant view was nice, we will be looking forward to come back for the Sunday...

Great food that were delicious!!! Ordered the Spicy Beef Ribs Tagine with Chickpeas and it was flavourful with a good level of spice. This was definitely the highlight for us that loved a bit of a spice in our food. We also ordered Traditional Lamb Couscous with Vegetables and it was very fresh! No spice, so good for people that can't handle spice. It'll feel a bit bland for Asians that love sambal, but it's definitely what it's supposed to taste like. It's very fresh and the lamb was so tender that the meat just comes right off! We also had the Seasonal Mezzeh Platter and they were way too good but the portions of the actual dish were all too big for us that we didn't end up finishing the platter. Sorry, we're Indonesian so we don't eat that big of a portion. But definitely normal Aussie portion. Wish we brought it home though. :(

In addition, the staffs were super friendly. I emailed them asking if they would let me order and pay in advance as it was a birthday shout for my boyfriend and my bestfriend. Didn't want both of them to pay so I kind of bothered them to help me out and pay in advance before we arrived. They were so helpful and accommodating! All the staffs on location were very friendly overall!

Will definitely...

Never had Moroccan food before so thought of giving it a go, and we were definitely amazed by the bold and beautiful flavours. We ordered a mezzah platter which came with some bread and 5 different side dishes or dip, including a yoghurt dip, eggplant dip, chickpeas, beetroot and broad beans and olives. We enjoyed the interplay of different flavours, spicy, sweet, salty, creamy, refreshing and rich. We also tried a harira soup. It's full of lamb flavour so you know they used a deep and rich lamb stock, and yet it is not heavy as it has a bright acidity coming from tomatoes I believe. We mopped up every last drop with the accompanying freshly baked bread. The last food item was a lamb shank tagine with prune and almond. It's definitely an interesting idea for us to have fruits and nuts in a savoury dish. The lamb was really tender and the stew was definitely rich as well. We ordered a spiced hot chocolate on the side and it was a journey to spice land, yet also creamy and chocolatey.
